2006 3500 4x4 with ~24K miles

About 190 miles into a "standard" trip for me, from Northern Virginia to Cape Hatteras, the "check gage"words lit up in the dash, and the "check engine" light came on and started blinking, and relatively suddenly the vehicle broke down (engine stopped)... thankfully I was able to get over to the shoulder.

Subsequent attempts to start result in the "check engine" light blinking, the engine turning over but not starting...

Any thoughts as to what this might be?

Many thanks,

Chris

Any codes?

If you are unfamiliar with how to read them, turn the key on and off 3 times stopping in the on (run) position. Code #'s will be displayed in the odometer.

Thanks.

I did the code thing... . the lights on the dash returned to normal... and I was able to start the vehicle immediately thereafter.

Weird. Believe me, I welcome my vehicle starting now, but this is puzzling...

Many thanks for taking the time to reply to this post a few weeks back.

What had happened was a battery cable (ground cable not one of the main +/- cables) somehow came loose, and the engine was turning over but not starting.

Once that cable was re-connected, everything was fine.

Thanks again.
