I've been driving a 4500 D-max for 6+ years now. There have been countless times when the truck would not move forward on a location. The truck wasn't stuck, just didn't have the power to move forward from where it was sitting. I would actually have to back up some, then go forward at full throttle and "bang" the truck thru a location. Years of having to do things like this have taken their toll on the front suspension and other components. I don't want to abuse my service truck, its how I make my living. But it's been a necessary evil sometimes. Being so underpowered, you have to keep the poor thing matted until you get up to 70 mph, twisting up the little d-max to 3200rpm in every gear... Years of that take their toll, on durability and on fuel consumption.
I DO understand about some employees intentionally abusing company vehicles though. .
My in-law had his own business and had a 1-ton that his crew was driving... . they ran it out of engine oil and wiped out the camshaft and various other parts. After I repaired the engine, two weeks later I got a call saying that the truck was broken down in a major intersection and would not restart. I asked my bro-n-law if it had any oil in it, he pulled the dipstick and low and behold, EMPTY. I told him to fill it with oil and call me back, when he called back, I THEN told him where I had installed the MURPHY shutdown system and how to reset it. He fired the entire crew that day!. Come to find out, they hadn't been doing any maintenance checks on ANY of the equipment.
