I have a new 2013 2500 with 6600 miles on it. It went in the shop because of the check engine light on and and they said that it needed a p2459 diesel particulate filter regen freq. Code applys to tsb 13-018-13 rev. A. update the pcm with new flash. Does anyone know what that tsb did to my truck.

Thanks

Dale

All,

Thanks for the info and the PMs on the 2013s and the DEF and DPF but at this point I think I'll keep my 2007 for a little while longer. Let the 3. 42 gear debate continue!

I would bet it is because your build still shows the hemi v-8..... put the cummins in a see what happens. :(

Sam

The summary link that I provided doesn't work the way I wanted it to. Sorry. But, if you go back and do the process step-by-step, it seems to work. Like I said, I know it is just a software issue, but it blocks the 3:73 but not the 4:10. Try it and see if it works for you.

hhmm. . I just tried it three times, every time I opt the 4:10 gears, it kills the diesel and goes back to HEMI

Sounds like we all need to order from your PC. . Or will you sell that glitch?

:-laf I've been looking for a way to earn some extra cash... ... maybe we just found it.

hhmm. . just got it to work with an SLT package, but not theL, LL, or LLL. . got it to work on a Bighorn too... hhmmm... . could it be possible??

Good, I'm happy you got it to work also. I doubt if it is real, but wouldn't it be nice... ...

I actually hope it doesn't work... . the 3. 42 gear has been my last holdout for not looking/buying a 2013/2014's. If that disappears, I could be in trouble... ...:-laf

I don't want to buy one ($$$), but I'm afraid our '04. 5 has seen it's better days. I'm hoping to hold out long enough to see how the new SCR trucks develop with some miles on them.

For 2013 Rams, we have two big units but no muffler in the exhaust system. The first unit is two-part. First half is a diesel oxidation catalyst, and the second half is a diesel particulate filter. The second unit follows the DEF injector and mixer in the transition pipe and has the Selective Catalyst Reduction functions to convert ammonia from the urea and NOx from the exhaust into nitrogen and water.

Sorry to interupt the thread. I am new to the Register.

Joe how and where how did you get the EDR Indicator in the picture and where does it connect too. Would like to get one. Just curious.

Thanks,

Scott

I am in the process of buying a '13 Dually aisin, and tried out two duallys first, one with 3. 42 and one with 3. 73. I hitched them both up to the same 10k trailer and pulled the same 6% grade. One direction I just put it in tow haul and let the transmission do its thing, the other direction I downshifted it myself at the bottom of the hill.

3. 42 had a hell of a time holding 6th while getting to the grade, 1-2% climb getting to the steep part, once there it dropped to 4th, went to 5th, dropped to 4th, went to 5th, all in about 1. 5 miles. Down the backside it gained 10 miles per hour and the "smart brake never did engage". Back up I manually put it in 4th and it held fine, couldn't gain any speed though, hit it at 72 and stayed there. Switched brake to just on position and it held great and would lose speed in 4th, worked great in 5th

3. 73 would hold 6th, at the grade went to 5th and stayed. Smart brake allowed about a 5mph gain, no more. Back up the other side manually in 5th and of course held speed, manually to 4th and I could gain speed, forgot to try the brake in "on" mode since the smart brake worked so well.

O'le Mr. Barlow will probably remember my last truck and the 3. 42 towing saga, I too felt that if the final drive was the same by downshifting the transmission, however I'm living proof that it didn't work worth a hill of beans. I had to manually shift the transmission and manually use the brake every time. If I let the truck do its thing it would drive me nuts.

Now I will never admit Harvey was right ;) but I had my suspicions on the new trucks so that was why I tried it.
Although the aisin is a damn good transmission, it still doesn't work that well with a 3. 42.

I'm picking mine up with 3. 73 tomorrow, will report how it tows 24,000lbs soon. :)

I'm sorry Powder..... but I just haven't noticed my truck behaving like that at all. My RV weighs close to 18K lbs and although it will NOT hold 6th going up a 6% grade..... it does easily hold 5th. And stays in 5th 'automatically' while going back down the other side w/ the e-brake.

At 24K GCVW, it would not be a good idea to try and stay in 6th, even if it could do it. I hate my 3:73 when towing heavy in rolling hills @ 55-60 mph I constantly have to shift from 5th to 6th, but I have a G56. Hunting for the right gear is never fun when you have a manual.

RV, not 24 gcvw, 24k trailer, 32-33k gcvw. I only run 6th at that weight when it's a slight downhill or with a tailwind, kind of a 10 lbs of boost or less situation where it can easily hold 6th.

I basically tried out the truck with 3. 42's out of curiosity and the fact they are much more plentiful. Letting it do its thing on cruise didn't work well at all.

Clayton, are you telling me your truck will pull a 6% grade pulling an 18,000lb 5er (I'm assuming since I've never seen a triple axle bumper pull) and hold 5th gear with a 3. 42 rear end???? I'm sorry but I don't believe that at all, not if the truck is stock. Did you mean 4th gear?

I was referring to AClayton's post, but I imagine that he has the throttle pegged and the engine is very close to a lugging situation or he was traveling very fast on the start of the grade. My comment of not liking the 55-60 mph on rolling hills, is because I don't have enough momentum for 6th at that speed, but if I hit them at 65 mph I have a chance that my engine won't lug. My Boost gauge is not set up yet, so I'm ignorant as to what my boost is doing, I have it, just haven't installed it yet.

Ramtrucks let me build some models of 3500 SRWs with 4. 10 but the dealer told me it can't actually be ordered that way. SRW = 3. 42 only. Using tow/haul and the range selector on the shift lever should keep the trans in a reasonable gear, 5th or 4th, as needed.
