How much you guys pay for your extended warranty and for how many years?

Dealers used to negotiate the price on warranties.

Mine paid for itself on my 06 and that is why I added to my wife's 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The extended warranty also gives you a "first day" rental car which was handy on the 2 recalls on her jeep. Hand them the keys & they hand you keys to your rental. We just got the 3rd recall this week for it but no parts are available for it yet.

Deletes still have a legal place on our planet for off road racing, drag racing etc so it's only a matter of time before deletes hit the market.

No one with a half a brain would delete one of these new RAM's while still under warranty!

I bought a Chrysler "Maximum Care" service contract over the Internet for our 2014 DRW 3500 through Trish Steinhard with Riedman Motors Co., Inc. (www.chrysler-warranty-online.com). It extended the factory warranties on our truck to 8 years / 120,000 miles with a $100 deductible per repair for $2000. Trish told me this was the longest coverage I could buy for our truck. I think the list price on Chrysler's website was over $3500 for this same service contract. It's cancelable (with a prorated refund based on time and milage) and transferable to a new owner.

Now I'm not a big fan of buying extended warranties, but I figure if just ONE computer module... or a couple of injectors... fail on our truck after the basic 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty is up, this service contract will easily pay for itself. It covers pretty much everything... except for the key fobs. For the price it seemed like a no brainer.

Best regards,

John L.

Pretty obvious that you don't understand racing or the bragging rights that go along with it. Money is no object.

Having crewed and provide tow vehicle for an E class flat bottom circle boat that was national high point winner for several years in the early 70's I understand competitive racing.

Fact remains the fed knows these "off road" items end up on road vehicles and they activitly putting a stop to it.

This thread is not about off road vehicles.

Wow Sno, you are quite the Sno it all. You're an expert on racing, exhaust, forrest, politics etc. Is there anything you haven't done yet?

I also bought the "Maximum Care" package online. 8 years/120,000 miles. This is the longest that Chrysler will warranty a diesel engine truck. I paid about the same price as you which was far less than my local dealer wanted and no sales tax either! Covers car rentals up to 7 days too which starts immediately, not after the first 3 years is up.

The nice thing is it goes into the Chrysler computer system and is good at any dealer in the US, Canada and Mexico. No paperwork or pre-approvals, it's in the system and you are covered. Several large Chrysler dealers on the Internet offer the same real Mopar warranties you can buy at your dealer with big discounts. If you don't know this, you can spend a lot of extra money.

The "Maximum Care" contract gives you a short list of items that ARE NOT covered, like brake pads, belts and similar wear or maintenance items. If something IS NOT on the list, IT IS COVERED with your $100 deductible. If you have multiple items repaired at one visit, it is still only $100.

This is the first time I have ever purchased an extended warranty but after seeing the cost of parts and the complexity of the new trucks, I think it's money well spent.

What some here seem to NOT understand and what this thread is about, is that these new trucks are married to the manufacturers service and warranty. A wise person would not do ANYTHING to the vehicle to jeopardize that warranty. SNOKING

WOW! 2k for Chrysler "Maximum Care" service contract was a great price. I paid more than that on my 2006 for 7 years 100,000 miles.

I asked my dealer the other day about that contract and he said "around $2,000 would get me 7 years 100,000 and a lifetime warranty would be maybe $3,200-3,500" and we didn't even talk about deductible.

He also thought it would only go to 100k on the miles.

His selling price was good and the trade in ok but he is still making it on the warranty.

It pays to shop around.

Thanks for the info!

Currently, the "lifetime" service contract isn't offered by Chrysler on diesel powered trucks.

Indeed that's the bottom line...

When sitting in the dealer's office about to buy a vehicle, how can you know if the prices being offered on a service contract, undercoating, paint sealers, a spray on bed liner, accessories, etc. is any good unless you've comparison shopped first? The dealer is hoping you won't!

It's always best to say "no thank you" because you can always buy any extra stuff... including service contracts... later.

I modified many computer-controlled diesel pickups over the past 18 years, but agree with all the comments about 'these times' and modern emission trucks; stock for me.

I'm impressed with the toque, power, and economy my '14 2500 6.7L delivers, even with what I thought was going to be too tall gearing (3.42:1). Also nice to see all the manual transmission guys, I'm a fan of rowing my own.

I have the 7 year warrantee. But I have an irritating and persistent check engine light that gives no codes. After 7 years, I might delete & program if the CEL doesn't cooperate. Also, would like to use a thicker oil with friction reducers down here in hot florida. Apparently, those friction reducers cause havoc with the particulate filter.

Yes, if the additives produce excessive ash, they can plug the DPF. If they contain phosphorus (e.g., zinc dithiophosphate), they can poison the platinum in the catalysts.

I just did roundtrip Kansas City to Omaha in a brand new 2014 3500. Outside temperature was in the high 50s, low 60s. Minimal wind. Cruised at 76mph (cruise control). Three occupants. Small load. Averaged 20.7mpg! Very pleased.

Can't complain about that. ECM mpg data or hand-calculated?

the extended warranty on my 2014 added $40 to my monthly payments and runs from 36,000 miles to 100,000 miles and the total cost is around $2300. it will take over the bumper to bumper factory warranty when it runs out at 36,000 miles. mine has a $100 deductible per occurrence. reviews i have read are mixed. most people say the 3rd party warranty company will look for a reason to bail on paying for anything and will outright refuse to pay for any repairs made without prior consent and approval. mine covers tires ruined due to road hazards but one guy said he had a new tire put on after running over something on the interstate and didn't bother to call for pre-approval and when he submitted his invoice for reimbursement the claim was denied. there is a list of things covered by the warranty and i have not been able to find anything like "def system" or "particulate filter" so they might have avoided liability for these things by pleading ignorance to the fact that they exist.

We are not talking about third party warranties. The ones we are buying at a discount are the real Mopar Factory warranties and are sold online by Chrysler Corp. Dealers. They go into the system. No prior consent needed. You paid a little too much for yours. For a little less money you could get 8 years/120,000 miles with the same $100 deductible.

It's worth noting...

Mopar Vehicle Protection can be purchased for new vehicles anytime within 4 years and 48,000 miles of the vehicle's warranty start date (the date the vehicle was delivered to its original owner). Surcharges may apply after 1 year or 12,000 miles.

i looked at the mopar extended warranties and found 2 different plans but the maximum length of time is 84 months and the maximum miles on both is 100,000.
