Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
I personally like the integration of the trailer brake controller in the truck. It works well enough that I don't have any immediate plans on installing my Maxbrake.
For now, she's collecting dust (and perhaps value?) :-laf
One thing I'll say is the factory controller is much finickier than typical aftermarket controllers. I had to go through and and run new wires to my brakes on both my tilt deck and my 5th wheel. I pulled both with my 98 within a week of pulling with the 14 so I know the wiring was good enough for the Max Brake. If I was hooking to different trailers on a regular basis my attitude about installing the Max Brake may be different.
