My parents came to visit me in Southern New Mexico (1,700 Mile trip). Today they came to base on on the way they got a check engine light (Code: P242F). So with the Alpha OBD I tried to force a regen and it would not let it go into regen mode.

I have done some research and seen posts but I couldn't find one that specifically points out this code with no others... It seems his truck has been having regen issues for quite some time.

Any help in some ideas on how to rectify this problem would be greatly appreciated... (we are thinking about deleting the system but that doesn't fix the cause of the problem.)

I cant help you but please don't delete it, truck is pretty much worthless for sale afterwards and many workshops just refuse to work on a deleted vehicle.
These times are over.

Here is some info I found, there also was a flash or 2 for some improvements.

If that P242F sets it won't stationary regen.

Need to clear and perform before it sets, but read it over. I'm just a paper pusher on this stuff.

NOTE: The vehicle will not allow the Stationary Desoot to run if the P242F DTC sets. For this reason, test drive the vehicle as close to the shop as possible in order to get back to the shop before the P242F DTC can set.

It’s already set. I tried resetting it and it won’t go away….. we will be going to the dealer Friday…

thank you for all the information though!!!

Sorry, late to this but it might help. But, you need to repair the reason the truck is producing too much soot before you try and drive it to reduce the soot load. Have they been driving with the oil change required message on? Has the CCV filter been replaced at least every 67k? Does the truck otherwise run good? Running empty at steady 55-60 on flat ground should start to reduce soot load. If it doesn't, something is wrong and it is building soot.

Unable to Clear P242F/Reset Regenerative TimersIssue:– P242F is a latching fault and will not clear until the soot load is reduced below 8.5 g/L.Currently cannot reset the regenerative timers to allow the fault to be cleared.Work-Around:– To clear the fault, drive the truck until wiTECH shows AFT Combined Soot LoadEstimate = 7.0 g/L or less– Before the truck is driven, the cause of the high soot loading needs to be addressed– Once the soot load is below 8.0 g/L, faults can be cleared, and truck driven until P1451sets allowing for stationary regen to be performedWatchout:– wiTECH will only display rounded numbers and not the decimal: i.e. - 8.5 g/L will appearas 8.0 g/L, etc.
