The device you use to connect alfa to the truck with should help you read codes pretty easy. I use the OBDLink MX+ and have used it on a 2011 cummins.

Just like so many things, there are multiple processes that work. My 5500 has a 9 gallon DEF tank and when I bought the truck. I asked my Ram dealership service writer of 20 years, anything I should do special with DEF, and answer was: " Top of at half full, and you'll be fine." And so, for nearly 5 years, and living in the South where we have 40+ 100°F days a year and maybe two weeks of mild winter, it has worked for me. And, when I had last surgery in 2019, truck sat barely used almost a year. So with all that, I gleam out of it: buy the freshest DEF you can and follow the fill interval that works for you. Oh, BTW, I purchased a DEF spectrum analyzer a couple years ago I've used once to see how it works.

only two codes I could find are:
P0513
U0212 - lost communication with SCT
These codes are from about a year ago. no current codes showing that I can find. codes were all cleared then, no reoccurance.
With the advice and comments from everyone, and changing out the DEF (whether it needed it or not) the message hasn't come back, I'm thinking whatever triggered the message is gone, and just going to proceed and operate as normal. Constructive comments always welcome! I like to learn.

I don't use Alfa much so can't say where the codes are. But if you have the OBD dongle load the free Torque App on your phone and read them. It still should have a stored code.
