P7207F Service DEF System See dealer questions???

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff
See TDR issue 114 and 115, The Rest of the Story for some additional info on P207F fault. You probably need Alfa OBD or a good scanner to see what the DEF concentration is that the ECM is seeing.

What I’ve read so far is people getting diesel in their DEF tank and since diesel floats on DEF it took them running the DEF level low for the problem to occur. That’s crazy and a scary thought. I’ve been typically filling my DEF when I hit half tank as I drive a lot and I’m not worried about it getting old. It was at a quarter tank when I got the code. I’m very careful at the pump and haven’t let any body run my truck. Drove it pretty far this weekend and so far so good!

I’ll keep reading to see what other information I find in issues 114 & 115

I don't trust anyone to not put something in either tank during the night so I spent the coin last year and got these, also if you have lock on the def tank opening you can't by accident put diesel in it unless you were take both caps off at the same time....

Thats a great idea, especially since I don’t have lock on my fuel fill. My diesel cap is a quick style spring loaded one, I’m not a fan. Mostly because the top is all grungy and I can really clean it.

I will look into replacing it.

going to the dealer at 7:30 am tomorrow morning, going to have them check it out anyhow.

my fingers are crossed!!!

thank you

So, went to the dealer today and it went well. They pulled the better part 10 codes that had nothing to do with the P207F that were stored in the computer. I still have no idea what they were, I saw stuff like backup camera lost signal etc…They had no record of the DEF issue…and didn’t have anything to tell me other then my coolant was a tiny bit low. So they topped it off, pressure tested it, took it on a 20 mile drive and tried to find a cause, discovered nothing.

Told me not to get DEF at the truck stop DEF pump as they’ve seen problems and to always use the jugs (preferably Mopar). He also told me to not go below half tank as it triggers a low DEF signal. Had the oil changed and the cabin filter and called it a day.

After I picked up my truck I noticed a Bear crawled in the bed last night, scratched and dented the driver side of my bed in front of my rear wheel! Not to happy about the bear and the verdict is still out regarding my trust levels with the dealer.

The half tank DEF level warning in a bit of a stretch! Go figure about them wanting to sell you there Mopar jugs! DEF is DEF not matter what. Just makes a difference on the turn over at a pump and how quickly the jugs move and are stored. Heat and time are what kills DEF. I've been using Walmart DEF most of the time with a TSC Travelers thrown in if Walmart is out of stock. Have a DEF tester and should pick up a refactor also to be able to test the other fluids also. Sorry to hear that the wildlife caused damage to your truck.

Agree about the trust in the dealer thing. Just like a doctors visit, tell it to me straight up with no BS!! Hope you'll have some trouble free miles in your future! Anything else pop up, ask away to see if the TDR board can help steer you in a fix without impacting the wallet. Put in some seat time and let this fade away in the rear view mirror! :p

Well more than 20,000 miles later same code same circumstances! Just happened on my way home…. This time I have the countdown, what a bummer. I was hoping it would clear itself like before but I’m afraid to drive it anywhere but the dealer, which is 99 miles away!

Has the truck been sitting, (especially in Hot temp) or did you get a bad batch of DEF? Might try dumping it and filling with known fresh DEF and seeing it it'll reset itself.

The only time it sat was during the storm for three days in a dry parking garage. Other than that I drive it every day. Hoping to get to the dealer this morning and if not I’ll try dumping the fluid. I have 140 miles on the countdown…one of the guys at work has has a texa commercial computer, he’s looking into if it will work on my truck. Mainly if the dealer can’t get get me in.

The code cleared itself right before I got to the dealer. Then they said it read zero codes, I asked them to look at it anyway.

They are replacing the DEF tank under my Max Care warranty. Sounds like this is fairly common??

Wow,.. I'm surprised they will warranty a tank w/o any open issues or pending codes...

Heck when my EGR was in the process of failing, 3 different dealers kept clearing the codes and told me to press on until it quit working,.. (aka passing along to the next tech, which incidentally happened on a hill climb pulling my 16k 5er just outside of Billings MT.) That was a 6mo old truck with only 7500 mi on the odo. Hopefully they can tell you what if anything they find and you can pass it along.

I was pretty irritated not to say you weren’t! I have 70k on the truck, just the got the full EGR service, oil and fuel filters along with a transmission service last week(3k). I showed them a picture of the mileage countdown and simply asked if they would check it out. I’m taking my family to Disneyland Sunday and asked if there was anything they could do.
I don’t have a lot of faith in this particular dealership so I’m hopeful they fixed it! it was covered under Max Care not the other stock warranty, $100 deductible!

What is a full EGR service on a 2020?

Yes, that’s what they told me. Carson Dodge quoted me $800 and the Placerville dealer quoted me $1,600 and said they do a much more detailed service. I decided to go with the more detailed service just because. I’m not looking to cut corners!

I’d be curious as to what the service really is since it hasn’t been a Ram recommended service on the 13+ engines.

They called it the 67,500 mile EGR service. I was suppose to get a message which didn’t happen but I went ahead and did it anyway…
Interesting as its my understanding they did away with having to do an EGR service on the 2019+ trucks, my 2022 owners manual that I downloaded does not even list an EGR service only to Replace Crankcase Ventilation Filter (CCV) at 60 months or 75K

That message is for a CCV filter, but pushed to 75K on the CGI engine. It’s not related to the EGR.

Does the receipt have any details on it?
