P7207F Service DEF System See dealer questions???

Thanks, TDR Staff
While I see that there is a procedure for it's removal and cleaning, my self I would question if its a regular service item that is needed every X amount of miles/months or only if there is a possible or know problem with the EGR being its not listed in the owners manual service/maintenance section...

Interesting as its my understanding they did away with having to do an EGR service on the 2019+ trucks, my 2022 owners manual that I downloaded does not even list an EGR service only to Replace Crankcase Ventilation Filter (CCV) at 60 months or 75K

I probably got taken! I’ll have to
Look in my owners manual…

It sounds like their service menu doesn't have the update for CCV filter change being changed to 75K and you'll sure get the message shortly if not passed 75K! Service writers will press you on things to make them sound dire and would affect your warranty coverage. A good friend had a dealer say their drag link stabilizers were leaking oil! It was the oil dripping down from the oil fill cap area not being cleaned after oil change! Another item was a fuel system clean was advised were no complaints of running issue or decreased fuel mileage noted. But on the other end, didn't try to sell cabin air filter! I'm wary do to working with service writers and the mechanics writing it up for them to sell!

You won’t find a prescribed EGR service in your manual.

I’d be calling that dealer back and asking for exactly what they did. What was cleaned? How? Was the CCV filter replaced? If so, was the CCV reminder reset?

Also, what was the breakdown for the fuel filters, oil/filter, and trans service?

The service writers call it a "Recommended service". I ask them who is it that is recommending this??? They pulled this on my son on his 15 and I called the guy and gave him the riot act. He gave my son a credit towards the other services they did.

This is the list…I was going to hold off but I figured if I didn’t do it right away it could void my warranty. This is also my first truck with any emissions so I’m sort of nervous about it all. Like I mentioned before, I never got the message like they said I should see at 67,500 miles. I think it was probably a waste!!

Cleaner EGR system
Gasket EGR valve
Gasket
Gasket-EGR Cooler
Gasket
Breather crankcase
O ring.
$1,600
Fuel KI-Fuel/water separator
Filter Fuel
$469.95
Oil change
$215.25
Transmission oil/gasket labor
$469.95

The breather crankcase was likely the CCV filter, but the 19+ trucks have it due at 75K miles.

Any mention of a transmission filter?

All the Ram required services are overpriced, but nothing too crazy for a dealership. I suggest doing the work yourself next time.

$350 worth of labor on the fuel filters for a 20-30 minute job, it’s “stealership” normal but still highway robbery.

I would question them on the work they did and why it's not in the OM. OM is your friend as it clearly list what would be required for keeping your warranty intact! Any dealer that says otherwise, ask to borrow their phone and call RAM to confirm what they are telling you. I bet they'll change their tune on what is being told to you. Had a dealer that didn't want to cover replacement of a windshield when cross wipers stuck together and scratched the glass. They said that there wasn't glass coverage! I said yes, except when a covered component causes damage. Just like a stuck caliper ruins a set of pads and rotor. I asked to use phone to call Chrysler, Talked with agent and and handed phone to service writer. There was a lot of yes and I see talk going on. Hung up phone and said that they would set up an appointment with glass shop and give me a call when that appointment would be and drop of truck. Don't feel like you need to have something done do to warranty! Make them so you in OM schedule of service. :p Of course if doing some of your own maintenance, keep a log along with receipts to prove work done on time and mileage schedule.

Many dealers in all makes try to up sell you on the "xxx mile maintenance"... Most of, if not all, the time its padded with a whole lot of easy profitable items and "checks" that are not required nor needed to maintain your warranty.

Reviving this topic because I'm having the same thing happening. However, it only seems to trigger when I'm above 7000 feet elevation. Each time I drive up into the Sierras I get this message. I come back down the hill and the message is gone. Dealer can't find any codes. Service advisor said he heard of one other guy having the same problem when he drove up to Lake Tahoe. Anyone else getting this code at altitude?
