Cummins is the worlds largest independent diesel engine manufacturer. they have a lubrication standard and companies can submit their motor oil for certification . Amsoil doesn't submit for testing so why use it. Walmart is on the list. LOL View attachment 101750

My guess is because it costs them (Amsoil) money to get the certification.

There are a lot of similar scenarios in various industries where a certification exists, but some manufacturers opt not to obtain it because of the costs. This, by itself, does not equal an inferior product.

never implied it was inferior. but something that advertises itself as and sells for a premium price ought to at least participate in a certification program, if they want to command that premium price, dontcha think? FWIW Royal Purple and Rotella T6 are on the list.

My guess is that Amsoil is relying on their reputation and brand loyalty instead paying for certification.

Proof is in the pudding. Universal Averages are based on less than 1/2 the miles that are on my oil.

you can get the filter right through the wheelwell, why try any other way? as far as Scamsoil use goes, its not on Cummins Oil Registration list so I don't know why anyone buys it other than being susceptible to marketing. Not saying Amsoil is the best. But it saved my arsss when a college student who was in one of my chem classes (gen chem) followed me home, found out where I lived. And on the day of finals (the night before) maliciously disconnected the bottom radiator hose.

Ran out of coolant on the way to college. Burned the amsoil, but it still saved the engine. Still lubricated.

Got another 60,000 miles out of it (total of 100k on odometer) before I traded it in..... still running well.

Doubt that any conventional oils or most synthetic oils would have protected me any better

Seriously, thats great guess work, you have NO way of knowing in that case what oil would do what.

"Your TBN sure does suck though......"

HMMM, the experts say it's STRONG at 4.4. Take a look at the Viscosities and flash point they are still on the high side.

OK, please tell me where my inferior oil has failed?
I don't think anyone has said AMSOIL was inferior. but most knowledgeable people acknowledge it isn't approved for use in Cummins ( otherwise AMSOIL would have participated in the Cummins Oil Registration program and had that oil registered) nor is it a good buy.

fact some people seem to love the stuff just reminds me that some people are also cult members.

Its hard to figure why someone would pay that kinda of money for OIL .

It makes even less sense , for someone like me, where I want to follow the guidelines for the engine. So I am dumping out good oil every six months ,with 4-5K on it.

Last thing I want to do is add insult to injury, and pay even more for oil like Amsoil, with no proven benefit . If there is, I am sure this cult following will let us know. :)

OK, you only run 4-5K per change. What are you spending per change? Multiply that by 3, how does that compare to my 15K cost of $120 ? Not to mention I only need to remove my air intake ONCE. :D
