CVT is nice but by far not for everyone.
We had one in our Jeep Compass, a quite sophisticated unit from Mitsubishi.
I liked it - but I swear 90% of the forums user here would hate it and shy away from buying.

Theoretically, yes. But the video from the OP doesn't support that assertion.

Unless you mean towing on flat terrain in 9th-10th gear
So it is, even better if it is direct gear.
European heavy trucks are all speed limited to 55mph, and geared to reach that speed in the highest gear right at peak torque.
No overdrive gears in euro truck trannys.

The trailer weighed 16k with 3k pin. Same speed up. Same braking down.

RAM weighed considerably more, better mileage with a measly 6 gears.

Based on this the RAM should take the crown this fall towing big.

The load was 14K+ which was only half the ratings of both trucks. The Duramax topped the hill equal to the RAM.

Trailer was 16K. At the point they show you the water tote and three blue dumbs, he states 16K. Like to see the same RAM against a dually GM with 24-28K out back behind both.

INB4 "I'm never buying a CVT transmission" ....... cause I never will

Plus, I wanted to add live and shifting (animals) in the infamous Gauntlet challenge. Let's load up some critters in those trailer and see how the drivers handles the load. An even better idea would be to add a 1K - 2K water tank (without baffles) inside the trailers and let these Prius drivers play on the Gauntlet.

If ya haven't figured it out yet, I truly believe these test are as valuable as al gore's gloBULL warming predictions.

HA. Not impressed as so many think the more gears are the answer. Kinda shows it didn’t matter.

Have you ever driven a 2 spd. powerglide with a 216 ci inline 6? If 3 is better than 2, 4 better than 3, 6 better than 4, why wouldn't 8 be better than 6?

If it won't make a difference, then your Aisin with lower 1st gear over the 68 don't mean nothing either :p

In real world applications more gears will help. Especially on fuel economy when one drives it like he owns it rather than like he stole it.

Another mention use of taller gears with 10 speed.

Did anyone watch this video? Not to get off subject, but does anyone see the piston/ ring package in this? There can't be much durability in that! He also drops a hint and a view of that 7.3 gasser we heard about months ago. Looks like a reimagined Windsor.

I saw those little short pistons, I thought maybe since it was a cut away, maybe the piston was cut off some?

A lot of OTR trucks are coming down in gear count, not going up. I drove a Road Ranger 13 speed with a 350 Detroit, spent a third of time going forward shifting gears, with a 300 RPM power ban. 1900-2200.
