No power to trailer 4 way plug. Any suggestions?

Well, she pulled the trigger!

Here's my 2 cents. The ex had a VM mortori Liberty that was modified to delete the simple 05 emission (EGR and CCV). Ran good oil, not the water thin 0W-40 recommend. Ended up getting 200K out of that motor with zero issues. Great little truck and I would still have it if social/geographic situation were different. I expect the ED would be the same. She has a GC ED now. Deleted with GDE and provent since nearly new. I don't expect to have any issues and it is a great truck.

The crappy performance is solely due to EPA tuning. A GDE tuned truck is freaking awesome to drive. I'd say if the EGR/CCV part of the emission is tuned out/removed, the trucks should preform well and have good service life (even with DPF/SCR intact). Unfortunately, the Gestapo has caught up to the US tuners and nothing available domestically now. So as much as I like this little powerplant, I would not recommend buying an ED if it can't be tuned/deleted. The heavy duty diesels have had to do what is necessary to implement the emissions and make them reliable. But I don't think the light duty diesel (any of them) are as good. Sad.

Side note, I unplugged the MAF sensor to purposefully throw the CEL and send the engine to preset tables to run off of and it was night and day. DRASTIC difference in throttle response, power, and driveability. It really shows how bad the FCA tuning is on this new engine. Once the aftermarket gets quality tunes out, this powertrain will be amazing like it's supposed to be.

Mule,
I just read your post, was it supposed to say MAP sensor or is it a MAF sensor. I've never heard of a MAF (if that wasn't a typo). How long did the results last? I bought my 2014 ED back in August and am scanning posts to see what I can do to eliminate the poor throttle response and get better performance out of the powerplant under the hood.

Thanks in advance

Allen

So due to COVID response I have been working from home this year and haven't been driving. My truck is at 8,000 miles now. I was without it for two weeks during the summer because the timing cover started leaking. Getting a new cover took a week, then another week for engine disassembly to access the cover for replacement. I've been in touch with owner groups and forums all year and I've seen a few blown engines, several timing cover leaks, one head gasket leak, a handful of turbo CELs, and some CAC hose leaks. The Gen 3 engine has gotten off to a bit of a rough start. But so far, the only issue that has bitten me is the timing cover issue.

A lot of dealers are STILL using Rotella T6 oil, even though it does not meet Gen 3 spec by the manual. FCA did send out a TSB highlighting why the oil filter on Gen 2 is not interchangeable on Gen 3. I'm not sure if some of these failures are due to improper maintenance (people using Gen 2 materials on Gen 3 engines) or if it's just poor design and engineering.

I'm leasing my truck so I'm not worried about it...but if I was going to keep this long term I'd be looking for an extended warranty.

Fuel mileage is 21 MPG in city/highway mixed driving. Most people I know are also in this range. Fuelly.com real world numbers on Gen 3 also show 20-21 to be the average.

Has this motor jumped the shark or is it the upgraded version it was supposed to be?

I'd like to buy a Limited version for the wife. But, I'm not sure if the potential fuel economy is worth the risk...

I'd appreciate any feedback from 2019+ owners Eco-diesel owners experiances.... :)
If she drives a lot of miles it will save you in the long run if you keep it a few years My 2015 is running 25+ miles city and some HY way driving

Hey Mule, any updates on your Ecodiesel? Thinking about leasing one for the wife......the local dealer has two beautiful Limited 3.0s on the lot and they want them gone.

Looking hard at this one today....going to see what they come back with. Might be time for me to roll the dice on an Ecodiesel!

I can give you the low down on my 2015, and I mean"LOW". Blown engine under 80k, tone wheel or crank angle reader gone with in 2 weeks before engine let loose. I have cleaned the map sensor and egr tube every oil change, pretty much clogged every time. in the middle of class action law suit for the diesel-gate,and will not be visiting the dealer until I get paid!!!!:(

That stinks but itd be cheaper to delete and become your own warranty station than wait for the stale bread crumbs after the class action vultures get done.

If there is a class action besides the settlement for the $3k payment from FCA you are probably wasting your time.

So I'm coming up on 11,000 miles now. Still not driving much due to working from home during COVID.

The timing cover leak at roughly 5,000 miles is still the only issue my truck has had that required repair.

I did go in for a voluntary PCM flash a couple of weeks ago in hopes that it would fix the HORRIBLE drivability, throttle response, and lag in this powertrain. It's been a widespread issue with the Gen 3s. I suspect that the tail pipe butterfly valve that they're using to "cork up" the exhaust and create backpressure for the low-side EGR system is partially to blame. Drive by wire throttle and a turbo charger complicate it even further. But, I drove a 2021 Jeep pickup with this powertrain and it was nice....very little lag and good engine tuning. So I was hoping that a flash on my 2020 would at least make it drive better. It seems to have helped a little. Not a lot, but a little.

Still seeing 21ish MPGs average. I just replaced the air filter, oil filter, engine oil, and fuel filter myself in the driveway last week. Did it all with proper spec materials for $150.

The truck HATES my new trailer. I traded my 7x14 enclosed for a 8.5x24 enclosed. With an EMPTY trailer I saw 8.5 MPG on a 130 mile trip. Ouch. I was getting 14 with the old trailer.

I saw that Cummins went back to the old CP3 injection pump. The CP4 is trash, and unfortunately that is what we get with this EcoDiesel. I'm using Hot Shots EDT with each fill up, and I keep a file folder in the truck with all fuel receipts and service records. Praying I don't get bitten...

Thanks to info on this and other Ram websites, we did not purchase an Ecodiesel. Dealership had loads of them and was pushing them hard, but I already made up my mind to get the 5.7L 1500, and still no regrets. We typically see 17.0 MPG highway and 15ish in town, but performance is amazing using regular unleaded.

I even got a bad itch to get a 3.0L Wrangler as performance was amazing, but changed my mind based upon poor performance and mechanical problems with the 3.0L.

I feel for the folks who have them and experience problems... maybe gasser or step up to a Ram Cummins if you need diesel.

Cheers, Ron
