Got my 2020 back after the HPCR pump recall, but soon need to replace the two fuel filters.

A messy job for sure, but last time i did it, i thought i primed the system 10 times by not pressing the brake and putting the truck in”Run” position.

It didn't work so great, and i had to crank the engine a TON TO GET IT TO LIGHT!

Scary to run a HPFP without fuel!

I have an Alpha OBD and bypass cable, is ther a safer option using that instead of the key on method?

Thanks @ all

So, you are saying they were not changed out as part of the repair/recall?

When I changed mine I did both at once so I figured I would need two cycles per filter. About halfway on the third cycle you could hear the air stop purging and a steady sound of just fuel. I did one more cycle for good measure and it fired instantly.

I was wondering that too, about the recall. You might want to check that out first.

Cycling the key five times should be plenty to prime and bleed all the air out.
You can hear the pump run and purge the air out.

Should start with the usual 2-3 second crank afterwards.
Cranking does not help to prime a CDI system, it's the electric lift pump that primes it.

It seems your pump did not run then when you encountered your issue.

One thing to do when priming the filter with the key on check the filter housing for leaking . It makes much less of a mess than with the engine running and the pump spraying fuel every where . Speaking from experience .

Yes I learned that lesson the hard way myself once. What a mess when she starts up . Filter wasn’t seated right when I tighten it up. Something like that as I remember or two gaskets one stuck in the top housing
