I look at it in a similar sense, but if you are doing UOA's, then try 3 gallons of whatever oil brings those numbers into a good perspective.

funny thing is all of them are just about the same whether it is a VOA or UOA
I've reached the conclusion that at this stage of lubrication science and development, all motor oils that meet a specific specication
perform similarly so a person might as well just buy the cheapest stuff available.

I did a UOA on my last oil change, and I found that the cheapest oil is working the BEST for ME. Your results will and may vary.

I enjoy reading about folk's trials and opinions on oil.

Just changed oil in my 2023 6.7. I use Amsoil 5-40 as a Amsoil member 3 Gal cost $ 132.00. I charge it every 7500 mile with a Stratapore filter. I sleep well.

Why spend the money for the Amsoil and 1) dump it so soon (unless it ages out) and 2) why not use a better filter like the Amsoil or Donaldson?

Which Amsoil 5w-40 are you using and where are you buying it?

I buy my oil direct from Amsoil. I run there Max Duty 6x oil. The oil reminder on the dash means nothing! It doesn’t know if you’re towing, idling, or how your truck is being driven. As far as I’m concerned, changing oil is very cheap insurance.

Running an oil rated for 25K miles in a truck with 15K mile OE service intervals, or 500 hours/1 year, and you dump it at 7500 miles o_O

Sure it’s cheap in the grand scheme of things, but that’s just wasteful. These engines don’t have any oil related issues on the cheapest oil off the shelf running OE intervals.

right? I worked in a municipal fleet my whole life. They ran anywhere from 70 to 100 vehicles powered with 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins, ran em 7 days a week.. all on low bid oil, honestly these engines go a long way on the cheap stuff.. I doubt they would have lasted any longer even if they spent more money, which my employer wasn't going to do.

not taking a shot at Amsoil users, but if a person realizes they can change the oil in the B series Cummins for less than 50 bucks if they shop intelligently.
if you factor in the cost of oil analysis as well as the more expensive oils, and actually did the same thing with the cheap off the shelf stuff, would they see any difference?

I have seen an across the UOA report done in Blackstone labs monthly newsletter, and it included a variety of lube oils with multiple samples
and it basically proved oil brand didn't matter...
