If You followed My postings at 1500diesel.com. Before I demanded to have all My posts deleted and 97hmcs Banned Me (Late 2016) back than (Fall) 2015 I label VM QC as the root cause of the rotating mass failures.... again its a hero/zero engines..... and the only option is establish trends on OAs .The puking will continue I read on other forums 2 more in the last 5 days...Both 50K motors.

What is VM QC?

Don't know for sure because nobody from FCA is saying a word, but you have to wonder why they changed the oil specification. They didn't do it just for fun.

They change it BC it was the best lube for diesels... MS11106 is loaded with calcium, One reason it was higher risk to destroy rotating mass BC Coolant and Calcium mixed create sand balls. the oil exchangers were failing at rates that are unusual. $$$$

Tsb 18-078-16

Ok, so all that being said , do I now go down to my local Ram dealer for the TSB 18-078-16? The truck will going on a 2 week trip away from home shortly and it meets all the requirements of the bulletin..

The ED oil exchanger has failure rates that are extremely high, Using MS11106 is loaded with Calcium. So if your Oil Exchanger fails, it causes Wear immediately, Ram only replaces the Oil exchanger in many cases, leaving you with additional wear and possible failure ..No thanks on lube loaded with calcium For ME, when much better lube is available W/O Calcium. Coolant and Calcium/Lubed = Sand balls.

Update-Jeep is back at dealer. Now its getting transmission. Dealer said transmission control module went bad and FCA said the only way to fix it is with a transmission. Problem is, they are having trouble finding one. Have not got an update yet if they have been able to locate one. Been there for almost a week. I have also been see oil dripping out of the pipe going into the intake. They have "taken the intake apart and cleaned it." I am guessing the after cooler is filled with oil.
We bought this Jeep in Nov. 2016. We bought it with 17k miles, it now has 21k.
So far-
New Engine
A/C Compressor, dryer, expansion valve
Turbo
Crank Sensor
Some Misc. interier plasic pieces that were broke.
Windshield
Transmission

Still has an interment problem with the infotainment screen shutting off randomly.

It has been in the shop for 8 weeks now and counting. Wife has lost all faith in it and wants to bail on it the minute we get it back this time. I am not happy, but I think we have a new drive line and should see what happens. Either way, we are both very frustrated with this vehicle.

I went thru something similar with a new Ford Powerstroke 6.7 a few years back.....it really boils down to the level of competence at the dealership that's doing the work.....unfortunately for me, there was no fixing my pile and it got traded in on a Ram.*

Are you confident in your dealers service department?

I contemplated buying a Jeep gasser, but settled on a Tacoma, after this horror story, I'm glad I didn't buy a Jeep. 93 was the last new American car we bought and we swore we would never buy another. I've always classed the Jeep in the Truck class, I guess I made the right decision. I was talking with a service writer that used to work for a Jeep dealer, and he stated he'd never buy a Jeep due to all the issues, but this was after I had bought my Tacoma.*

jmarx82, this is a opportunity for you to lemon law your Jeep, your issues are the very reason there is a lemon law.*

I am glad I helped someone. LOL. Unfortunately we bought the vehicle used. The Lemon Law, in Ohio at least, does not apply to used vehicles or vehicles with over 18k miles.

So... I have to ask... This is a RAM Cummiins site right? Then Chrysler brought in the VM eco thing so we added the 1500 and that engine. Nissan gets the Cummins that RAM threw away and we don't talk about that engine. Maybe we should? Anyway my question How many Cummins engines have failed over the years? RAM really screwed the pooch dumping that Cummins engine that Nissan now has. Repuation is everything. This black eye the VM eco now has is going to be very hard to get swept under the rug......

Wise move or not? too early to tell. I'm guessing FCA went for the superb fuel economy with the VM Motori. The Nissan Cummins doesn't even come close.
