Like most of you folks I also would like a little more POWER under the hood of my DC. I am curious... has anyone purchased and installed the 24 valve Banks Stinger or Stinger-Plus yet? Do you feel this package is worth the $2225. 00 asking price for what they claim is a +87 HP & +269 lb-ft gain?

I am looking for a power upgrade that won't twist my A/T into scrap metal while at the same time allowing my Cummins to start acting (and sounding)like a real Cummins. The Banks caught my eye because it comes with a 4-inch exhaust, which I would like. What about the "Ottomind" engine calibration module that comes with the package? Is this any better/worse than the TST or Blue Box? Where did they get their "Quick-Turbo" turbine housing from? Does anyone care to lay out any comments on Gale Banks Engineering? Thanks in advance from a undecided newbie in Alaska!

OOPS! Forgot the signature. Still learning in Alaska!

When I first got my truck in Nov. 99 I had heard about TDR magazine not the website. So being interested in diesels and campers -trying to pick out a camper learning anything about them which is how I am when I BUY SOMETHING BIG had been subscribing to Trailer Life magazine which advertises Banks and thought this was the wsy to go (maybe still is)but after by accident while killing time on the computer discovering this website Im not so sure. You bareiy see anything in the posts about Banks? I think there is a dealer here and maybe someone to install? NO BIG power upgrades for me right now money and I have a auto because I to get tired of shifting all the time i. e. all my working life. I do think there are lots of options out there and many more coming down the trail... ... .....

I was looking into a high idle kit and found them at Advance Diesel Service 1025 Orca St. Anchorage. Look in the White Pages. They also sell and install Banks stuff. There seems to be lots of other companys out there with good stuff that is cheaper than Banks. I don't know of any one that has any Banks parts installed (other than a knuckle head with a powerchoke). I'm thinking about the DD stage II, DD Boost Module and Ted Janetty's 4" exhaust. I called Cummins Alaska and was quoted a price of $1150 or there abouts for the Cummins Uprate kit.
I hope you guys are enjoying the weather. Nothing like 45-50 degrees in Dec. and parking lots like ice skating rinks.

Keith L. What is CUMMINS ALASKA offering in there CUMMINS upgade kit? How much horsepower and torque? How are they obtaining it?

turbo terry -
If I remember right Advance Diesel Service wanted $200-$250 for the unit and 2-3 hours to install. It's been awhile since I spoke with them. Their number is in the white pages. A buddy with a 12v had one installed total cost I think was around $450, it's a different unit in the 24v. The 24v unit is supposed to be easier to install. It looks like a nice install. He's real happy with it. These are the same units the Dodge dealer in Fairbanks puts on all of their trucks. I've been using a adjustable snow brush.

The Cummins Uprate kit is only for the 5 speed. I should have looked at your signature. Any way it is a replacement ECM. No HP gain but bumps up the TQ to 505. It's real spendy for the gains.

I am new to the site and have learned a bunch about these engines. I have traded e-mail with Ted Jannetty about the VA CPC, he was real helpful. I'm currently leaning toward the injectors and exhaust. I haven't checked with A. D. S. about injectors but I should.

turbo terry & Keith L... thanks for the come back. We sourdoughs will have to stick together. I guess nobody is into doing the Banks thing on ISBs. Well it is pricey for what you get. I have heard that it was a pretty popular way to trick out the 12 valve.

Like you guys I am just shopping around. I would like to get over the hill a little bit quicker! Banks is an easy doityourself kit but so is a magic box and injectors. My main concern is the auto trans and how much torque I can put on it without burning it up. I dont really want(or afford) to go all out If anyone can answer this I would be greatful. Thanks for you time.

I purchased the Banks Kit for my 99 24v and I feel that this was the right kit for me. I wanted to get everything from one manufacturer so I could depend on the hp and torque numbers without "tweaking" or guessing how to make other vendors parts work together. Everything fit real nice and was easy to install, sounds meaner too. Truck has plenty of power now and gets about 1. 7 mpg better. The real kicker for me is the customer service, when I had a problem with the transmission ECM I called Banks not knowing if it was their kit or something else causing erratic shifts. They went the extra mile, located a dealer for me that would do the work under warranty, scheduled an appointment at the dealer for me... turned out the problem was the ECM flash 18-02-99. (Dodge problem). Banks is a first class outfit in my book. and I don't have to worry about the stainless exhaust rusting in ten years...

I would like to know more about the kits for the 24valve engines. I have a stage III power pack on my 1989 D250 and I love it. I bought it in 1998 after first seeing it advertised in 1997. This thing rocks, but now I see that banks is not the only game in town. I do feel that others have comparable offerings for much less$$$. Do I regret buying the kit for the 89?? Absolutely not. I will go out of my way to promote their products, but I do not think I'll shell out $2400 for a kit for my 99. I am very afraid of these "magic" boxes(ottomind). I do not think anyone has figured out exactly how the computer works yet. Still waiting. Give us some more info on the Banks kit??

Hey Fitz, next Ram Runners meeting is 1-18-00, at 7:30, I'll email when the location is confirmed. We'd like to see your Banks stuff.

AKChuck, good to hear your tunin' that hemi diesel. Regarding the DD logic on the otto trans, Lawrence recommends the Stage I injectors. I say, fly in the face of conservative POWER gains, go with the Stage II injectors and add the boost module and turbo elbow. Yeah buddy! Hope you have studded tires. This is about 75 hp for $900. 00. You can install this stuff in about two hours. You won't need the 4" exhaust, that will save you $600. 00. Give Lawrence a call 702 897-6263, ask him if my 4" exhaust showed up yet, I'm gettin' all choked up (3" exhaust).

Sounds fine, drop me an email a few days before as I don't check my email every day. Don't laugh when you see the front of my truck, I smashed into another car the other day and pushed my bumber in about 2 inches and did some damage to the left fender and hood. I hit a brand new Chrysler 4-door (big sedan). Doing maybe 35mph when I hit him. The back of his car was pushed in to the back window, fortunately no one was hurt. I have stopped using my cellular phone while driving. I now drive like a woman with both hands on the wheel looking straight ahead. I decided to do the body work myself and I have ordered a 300lb Reunel bumper. Can't wait till the bumper gets here, I can stop driving like a woman and start using my cell phone again.

You better take the bus to the meeting or you will have to tell that story 30 more times!
I feel your pain (your trucks pain?).

I know what you mean about phone calls while driving. Then people want you to take down notes too! Best thing is to get off the road.

I'll email you about the meeting.
