Well on Saturday Mom and dad was on their way to Wal-Mart and thought they could hear a noise when going up hill. So they come by my house. I could hear a noise coming from the right side of the engine. While I was driving it I started up a pretty steep hill and it started making a noise like air blowing. It only does it when pulling a hill or under moderate to heavy acceleration. Just going down the highway it's fine.

I told dad that I think that the first noise was the turbo bearings we were hearing and now the air blowing noise is because the turbo has locked up and the intake and exhaust is trying to blow past it. I don't know for sure but that's my theory.

Anyway it's on its way back to the dealer in Potosi this morning.

Sounds like a loose turbo/intercooler piping connection (the rubber boot clamps). That would be a high probability after an engine replacement.

Magnuson v. Moss Warranty Act

A part of a page in the front of one of our hastings filter books

"Under the Magnuson- Moss Warrenty Act, 15 U. S. C. ss 2301-2312 (1982), and general principles of the Federal Trade Commision Act, a mfg may not require the use of any brand of filter (or any other article) unless the mfg provides the item free of charge under the terms of warrenty.

So if the consumer is told that only the original equipment filter will not void the warrenty, he should request that the OE filter be supplied free of charge. If he is charged for the filter, the mfg will be violating the Magnuson-MOss Warranty Act or other applicable law. "

IN OTHER WORDS: USE WHATEVER FILTER YOU WANT EVEN IF ITS A FRAHM ;)

Brian

That might be a true statement, but since Cummins and DC both know that if you use one of the non approved filters, you risk plugging the cooler nozzles and an engine failure is the result. That being the case, why would you want to use a non approved filter to prove your point. Might be right in theory, but not too smart.

Brain, I don't think this applies in this case. They are not saying you have to use the Mopar or Fleetguard filters. Just one on the approved list, which includes several different manufactures. What I don't understand??? I have not recieved any information on this "approved list" from DC and if I was not a member of the TDR I would not be aware of this problem. I would think DC would be on the hook unless they inform every owner of record of a Dodge CTD, just like a recall notice. Otherwise how is a CTD owner to know???

Dad took the truck to the dealer in Potosi yesterday and they found a clamp on the intercooler loose but they said the turbo was bad too. They ordered a new turbo.

Good for you! Sounds as if the dealer is finally finding out from which side of their bread is buttered. Wonder if their gettin' heat from corpoate Dodge in this matter. After all is working well are you going to keep the truck? Who knows what will happen with it next. Might you want to trde it in? Keep us posted. -frank (one of the many members following this saga. )

The turbo being bad should come as no suprise,it should have been replacd along with the engine. The bearings must have been damaged my the lack of oil.

Dodge finally caved in!! I think someone at DC was reading the scoldings that we at the TDR were giving them for not taking care of the customer. When I saw this thread, I was hoping they didn't have another problem. As far as I know... . all is well.

Everything has been fine.

After the engine replacement they did have to replace the turbo, but other than that it has been doing just fine and full factory warranty has been restored.

Side note: It did take a beating on the night of May 6th. Our town took a bad hit from a storm. (experts can't decide but some have said that they saw two tornadoes). The truck was parked beside their house. They lost most of the roof and the roof hit the truck. Put a dent in the right front fender, upper door post, scratches across the windsheild and had roof shingles blow ed up under the hood and around the door openings. The house suffered extensive water damage and is under reconstruction at this time. They had a number of trees uprooted but none on the house. They have a 30ft travel trailer that was moved about 3 feet from were is was. They are living in the camper for now. However dad said the insurance adjuster was out today to look at the camper and said that he thought the frame was bent and that they may total it as well. Mom says they can't have it until the house is fixed. It's turning out to be quite a year so far.

Thanks to everyone.

More Data please

I now feel we are getting to the bottom of all this. Way back in this article someone put a Big red light on the oil pressure line... Why doesn't someone in this TDR outfit come up with just that modification for our trucks???I'd be willing to pay for a Mod if it was available??? How about it, There must be Many Inventors amoung you 16,000 TDR Members that can come up with a solution???? Remember the Fuel Pressure Gage that one of our Members came up with. I think it cost $45. 00. It was great. I have one in my 99 RAM all the time. Who will be the first to come up with the Big red light??????Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

I think there is a good possibility if the mechanic did not flush the oil supply line to the turbo out, that bearing debris from the crankshaft still in the line is what got the new turbo. \\\ I feel for your folks with the tornado. Tornado hit here at Jackson too. Every chainsaw chain I have is hanging on the ladder rack on my truck dull. Storms blew away 2 of our barns , machine shed and the big tall pines in our back yard. Fortunately we don't have to deal with any insurance adjusters as the b$#stards cancelled us after our shop burned:mad:

White Night I'm really sorry to hear about your problems. I truly hope that the tornado took out the dealer in Desoto. As far as the turbo is concerned, you were supposed to have recieved a complete motor. I dont understand it going out. I hope the dealer in Potosi has taken care of that.

In light of all that we have read on this thread, It seems to me that there is still some things that need to be taken care of. If the dealer is to remain in business in Desoto, I think a public apology is in order. I would be happier to hear that Daimler/Chrysler has pulled their franchise rights.

As to the many views and posts on this thread getiing something done, yes I would imagine that 17000 members may have a little bit of pull. When you consider that the membership may represent over $595,000,000. 00 dollars in sales. I would think that Daimler/Chrysler should step in and do something. This whole line of crap about filters to be installed and provided by Chrysler or else, is illegal. Futher more I wish chevrolet would put the Cummins in a Silverado. Hell I might just go ahead and build one myself.

This whole thing has very much changed my opinion of Chrysler. I dont think this is the company that Iacocca rescued from ruins.

I vote take the dealer in Desoto down, Cancel his franchise agreement.

Show us you are going to trade fairly with the very people that allow you to have the country club life and money to burn. Dont you dare thumb your nose at the people that are less fortunate than you. This is the information age and the word gets around quickly. So roll up your sleeves and get to work.

By the way I work for a tugboat company, when I showed up with my new to me Dodge Truck there was one other Dodge in our employee parking lot. Today there are seven. We only have four tugboats in Savannah, Ga, but we have over 100 company wide.

I vote free scheduled maintenance for White Nites truck as long as it is registered.

Good Luck

And God Bless the TDR and its members

Dodge Dealer In WhiteKnights Home Town

Well I couldnt resist the temptation to try and see who the Dodge Dealer was in Desoto, Mo.

Well I went to the Dodge Website and plain as day found the Dodge Dealer in Desoto. Well WhiteKnight does Parker Banks Dodge ring a bell? If anyone would like to join me in emailing them, their website is parkerbanks.com they have a contact us link on the main page. Their telephone number is 636-586-3300.

Ok WhiteKnight its up to you to confirm that this is the dealer that denied your warranty claim and treated your folks like crap.

I think we should all try and call the service department in unison at a given date and time. Can you imagine what it would be like to to take a call from 17000 angry Dodge/Cummins owners. Like wise I think we should all try and send a thank you note to the dealer in Potoski, Mo.

United we Stand

Good Luck

Don, this thread is over a year old. On page 13 WhiteKnight said every thing has been taken care of and warranty restored. Now would not be a good time to shake the tree.

Don,

Thanks for the sentiments, but I think they have shot their own selves in the foot because I have talked to many around town that refuse to deal with them anymore. I see a lot more cars and trucks around here with out of town dealers names on them and they sell GM's too. Since then my wife and I have bought a 2003 Intrepid and a 2003 Ram 3500 CDT from the dealer in Farmington, MO and are very happy with both so far.

Dad's truck has been fine since this happened last year. He has recently been loosing a little anti-freeze. It's a very slow leak so its been hard to find. The dealer in Festus, MO is who has been doing all of our service and have been very good to work with and they are in the process of looking for the leak.

just a little something I stumbled across. And I immediately thought about whiteknights predicament.

After reading this I said, Hmmmm. I think the Dodge dealer knew about this possibly while the problem with whiteknights truck was under arbitration.

Yes I have once again dredged this thread up again. But for the benefit of all CTD owners.
