Yes!

Whitenight,

It is rewarding to hear you and Dad have reached a favorable outcome. It is great knowing that so many TDR members were willing to aid you through the process of getting this situation straightened out. Yaaaaa Hoooo!

;)

I drive truck for the local newspaper. We used to buy Dorf trucks with the B engine, ford got stupid with warranty issues so we switched to Kenworth with B & ISB engines. So I decide to buy a Dodge CTD shortly after, Cummins gets stupid with warranty issues so we switch to Cat engines on all new trucks, still Kenworth. The Cats are in-line 6's a bit noisier, but from a drivers needs equal to the Cummins. Then I read about Whitenights troubles and I start going crazy, I'm so glad Dodge/ dealer finally stepped up to the plate, I can relax a little. Thank you Whitenight, you've made the next battle easier, Ed.

Whites Parents

Great News! Glad to hear your parents are being taken care of! To bad they were put through HELL first, but at least it's over now!

It's Not over until the Fat lady sings!

Well, I sure hope the outcome is as promised by the dealer.

I have learned to not sing praise, until the job in complete.

Talked to dad last night, and they have not got the engine yet. They said it was coming from Columbus, IN and we have had some bad weather the last few days and with the holidays I told dad they my not get it as fast as they thought.

UPDATE

Well the fat lady hasn't sang yet but It looks like she's warming up.

Dad called the Potosi dealer yesterday and they had the new engine sitting in the truck. They hadn't started trying to get all the other stuff back on yet. Hopefully it will back on the road very soon.

Thanks again everyone!

Glad it is working out. If I was your Dad I would have the dealer change my oil from now on. Not worth the hassle ;)

Re: UPDATE (2)

Could this have been "Big Brother" from DC?

This afternoon Dad got a call from someone who said they were from Chrysler from somewhere in California that would not give their name but told dad that he had read what was going on here on the TDR website on Friday and said he was sorry for everything that had happened to him and assured him everything would be taken care of and asked that he (or I) to please post here that Chrysler were going to take care of the repairs.

So whoever you are here it is. It's been a pretty good day around the White House today.

I think that the saying "Strength in Numbers" came in to play here. They (DC) pi$$ off 13,000 subscribers with their antics and then see how their vehicles sell. It is sad that it took all this hassle for whiteknights family to get something done! I think that they should be re-imbursed for ALL expenses they incurred, i. e. , having the oil filter independantly tested, loss of use of the truck, ect. Chris

OK, I hope DC is reading these posts. DC, here's the deal, here's what you have to do to make this right:

1) Yes, do the right thing for this one case. But don't stop there or it means NOTHING, because as much as we love our brothers, our real question when we choose our next truck will be this: Has DC changed, or are you going to just do the same thing to ME tomorrow?

But here's the all-important "Part 2" of the deal:

We, the members of the TDR, are trying to educate our newer members that if we modify our engines to crank up the power, then we shouldn't try to "fool" the dealer by removing the box before service, and we shouldn't expect engine or drivetrain warranty to go unchallenged; that's clearly part of the agreement of the warranty coverage.

But DC, you need to do your part too - issue a TSB, or implement dealer training, to prevent these unreasonable cancellations of warranty. You can't cancel a warranty because you "suspect" engine tampering, or because someone changed his own oil filter. You can't cancel a warranty on the whole truck, like say the power steering or AC unit, because someone decided to step up the engine power and give up that portion of the warranty. You're breaking the law when you do those things. We've seen the TSB's on "approved" oil filters; we've seen the TSB on how to detect engine tampering; now let's see the TSB that helps the dealers to make legal, appropriate calls under the M-M act.

And while you're at it, change your "issue resolution" process. When I had a concern, I got one individual, who absolutely refused to give me any recourse to take it up-line to a supervisor or manager; it was basically accept his answer or go to court. That is NOT a good program for enhancing customer satisfaction. If it wasn't for the Cummins engine, I'd drop you guys like a hot potatoe ;) and be driving a Toyota next week!

The Rset Of The Story

Dad and I went and picked-up his truck from the dealer in Potosi, MO this morning with the new engine. Everything looks good and it runs good. The service work order says that the "oil pump" was bad causing the engine failure.

We have been hearing from a lot of people about problems with this dealer here in DeSoto, MO. Some from family members that we didn't know about their problems prior to this:

1. My father-in-law took my wife's (before we met) car in for service and when she got it back the radio had been changed (her's had a tape player, this one didn't). He went back and they had her radio on the work bench. Gave some excuse as to why it was taken out.

2. My father-in-law who worked at the factory was asking them about a new truck and when he told them he would be using a "green Sheet" for his employee discount they told him they wouldn't sell him a truck because they could sell one to any fool of the street and make more money.

3. My dad's sister bought a car from them and had gotten a green sheet from my uncle but she didn't tell them about it until she made the deal and they were pretty irate over it. Later when it wouldn't start they wouldn't send a tow truck or nothing. My uncle ended up calling the dealer in Festus, MO and they sent a tow truck and fixed the car under warranty. When she told them that she would never buy another car from them they said they didn't care because there were plenty of other suckers who would.

I will never go to that dealer again for anything. I don't even like driving past them. I can't say I'm am fond of any of them. But I am glad everything worked out finally for my dad and mom.

whiteknight,

Thanks for keeping us posted through it all. So glad it worked out for your parents. I hope the dealer was not a 5 star dealer... In any case I would let DC know they have a rogue dealer giving DC a bad name.

Best regards, Richard

Been following your troubles with great interest, I 'am also glad your dad was able to get a new engine. How ever the origional problem where all the oil was thrown out of the engine doesn't sound like an oil pump problem.

I would think Cummins would tear down the engine for a much better look. Sounds like the dealer is not interested in coustomer service in any form. Can't imagine how they could stay in business with their attitude.
