I have a 2002 24v cummins i have a rod knockin and i am rebuilding the motor i have a spare 2003 coomon rail motor is the block and cranck and connecting rods the same in both motors so i wont have to cut anything or cant you swap these years, also parts whats good to put in while its ripped appart i wana put a cam in it but whats a good brand truck dynoed 525hp as is id like to do a diff cam, valve springs and maybe a few other things to stranghten it up let me know your opions thanks

Think most everything has changed for the newer models. You can usually find used rods on EBay from Redlinear in Arkansas. I have a good standard crank from an '01 HO. Bought a spare engine for my 98. 5, after 2000 didn't have the timing ring on them so I can't use the crank. If you need it let me know and good luck on the rebuild.

Crank might be the same, the block is way different as are the pistons. Rods in the 24V are actually a little better.

Better off sourcing parts for the 24V.

Kind of rare to have a "rod knock" in these engines. Did you find which bearing or wrist pin was making noise?

The reason I ask is bad rings or a scored cylinder can sound very similar. Might save some effort. Happened to me.

I'm not sure yet didn't get the motor out yet so I'm not positive but my buddy has a 12 v and he had a rod knockin on #3 wen we ripped the motor apart but wen I get it apart I'll have to see I'd rather it be rings or scoring thanks for the tips
