comrades - 2500 ram tradesman cummins 2018 . i changed my filters at 14,600. i need to go from colorado to chicago shortly, because my pop is not doing well. current miles on truck is 27,000. should i change the fuel filters before i leave or when i get back? 1000 miles exact each way. i dont know the probability of the truck thinking the filters need serviced when they get close to the due date via miles driven. thank you in advance for your thoughts/advice. cheers, chris

When you get back!

Best wishes regarding your pop! At 75 we are loosing friends quite often. Getting old kind of sucks, but it is part of being on four legs, then two legs and then three legs. Then............

It is nice that you are making the effort to take the trip!

NukeGM, sorry to hear about your pop...hope gets well soon. for even more reassurance, pull up your fuel filter percentage... Mine showed 20% remaining life at 15K miles. Be safe driving.

Ron

Chris, I hope your pop is okay.
I’m from the old school where more maintenance is better. I think I’d be prepared and have peace of mind, and carry a set with me just in case. You’ll never know if you’ll catch bad fuel in the road.
Be safe.

thanks fellas. appreciate the kind words and advice. ill carry 2 with me just in case...dad is 82. thats pretty old for the DNA in his side of the family. however, he is a marine. :) and he is a little stubborn. all the best to you. cheers, chris

Before all the electronic crap, 15K was standard interval, and will be mine unless the electronic crap tells me earlier. With your current 12,500 miles you'll be just fine. I remember a student of mine was driving a 03 2500 SO Comifornia HP/TQ CTD, and was complaining it was not performing well. After a thousand question ordeal, he had never changed the fuel filter on the truck, and it was @ 60K miles. After changing the fuel filter, it ran as best it could with a chocked up Comifonia HP/TQ CTD. With your 2018, you have the secondary filter as well, your good for the extra miles if needed.

Sorry to hear about your Pops, hope all goes well in Chicago.

Sometimes it’s not ALL about the mileage.

Take me, for example.....my “15,000” mile intervals at my lifetime average mpg of 10.33 mpg is actually 1,452 gallons of fuel filtered.

I’m confident, from an actual gallons consumed standpoint, that you’ll be fine until you get back home.

OK, in order to be a TRUE type A, you must ALWAYS carry a change of fuel and oil filters.

Cheers, Ron

Maintenance can wait for a few... Go see your dad!!

Fuel is cheapest about 40 miles west of Lincoln, NE FWIW!! I know this because I had to drive to TN to rescue my youngest sis, about a month ago.

I too agree with the maintenance can wait see your dad first.

I also am a part "TYPE A" but I only carry my two fuel filters in the truck at all times. These are switched out every fuel filter change. I use the two that are stored in the truck and replace them with new ones.

thanks again for the advice and words. off to chicago tomorrow. at least ill be able to get a decent pizza for the first time in years. carrying spare stuff as suggested. cheers comrades! :) chris
