Do all trucks that come in the 4.10's also come with the HO Cummins? I was under the impression that they did but I do not see it listed at all on my window sticker.

No. The 68RFE auto can be mated to 3.42's, 3.73's, and 4.10's in DRW configuration. They are rated lower than the AS69RC (Aisin) equipped trucks.

I just drove across country unloaded with my '15 and 4.10 gears and even unloaded I'd still get the 4.10's. I still got 15mpg unloaded (9,200lbs with me in it), even going a speed I won't advertise on the Internet, but let's just say it was close to readline much of the trip. :) Now that I have 16k miles on the clock my fuel economy has gone up considerably since it was new.... probably 20-30%.

Don't knock'em.....till you've had some windshield time with'em. :-laf

I sure would not leave 4,500 lbs of towing capacity and 4,500 lbs of GCWR on the table just because of the 3.73's (3.73's vs 3.42's).

Likewise....if I were teetering on being in the next level of GCWR....I'd have no reservations at all going with 4.10's. The 4.10's "shine" more over 3.73's (5,300 lbs more towing capacity and 5,300 lbs more GCWR) just like 3.73's "shine" more over 3.42's.

Still trying to figure out where most everyone comes up with "3:42" instead of 3.42 and "3:73" instead of 3.73 and "4:10" instead of 4.10....

I had 65K windshield time with the 3:42's towing a combined 29K and really liked it except for the taking off from a stop on a hill part. I have 4:10's now and are the same rpm's when I towed at 60-62 5th gear VS 6th gear both at about 1,750RPM. IMHO a perfect RPM for the Cummins making it stay in 6th longer than the 3:73's would have.

Bottom line I have what will tow the MOST weight with the least effort offered by RAM. I really don't care what the mileage is just how well it gets the job done.

I think one should get gears that cover the most they think they will ever tow. If tires are going to be over sized like the OP says, then go one notch lower.

My 3.42 with 33" OEM tires make for a great cruiser, and should handle it's 17k tow rating without a problem. Snoking

What's the dry weight on that monster? Pin weight?

The dry weight was 18,0??# but I don't believe that! I am assuming it was weighed before many things were added, 6500LP Gen and prep, washer&dryer. The pin weight is about 5,500#. RV total weight is 23,000#

Front axle is 5,460# the rear is 9,580# and trailer axles are 17,500 combined. Combined 32,540#

Dang that is a monster! I assume 17.5 trailer tires but what size axles, 9k?

Must be very luxurious inside. I thought my Raptor at 13,800#'s dry and 1,800 pin weight was heavy.

You can go to RollingRetreats web site they have a bunch of pics on there of the inside. Scroll down to "our newest happy customers" its the one being pilled by a red Volvo HDT.

Anyway you want to haul a BIG RV get the 4:10's!!!

Yes sir I did. I just picked up my 2016 3500 Laramie. Complete with the Aisin and 4.10's.

They are MorRyde IS axles and I believe are 8K. The tires are fine with 4,806# per tire rating. I will probably have a third axle added.

The 8k axles are big and tough, but yes, I think the factory under GVW this trailer with all the options. To add 9 or 10k axles would be fairly easy v/s a third axle. 235/75x17.5 tires are rated 6k each if you want even more overkill.

I have owned both 3.42 and 4.10 and I would never go back to 3.42s -- period. On average I get about the same mpg between the two setups and the 4.10 tow much better overall (with better overall MPG when towing). There will be be people that swear by the 3.42 and people who swear by the 4.10s. I agree that 5th with 3.42 are similar to 4.10s in 6th but its not all about cruising on the highway. You first need to get up to 5th and having more gears and a lower 1st to play with improves overall MPG and driving pleasure. I learned the hard way that the 3.42/68rfe combo just plain sucks unless you tow light and enjoy cruising at high speeds 80mph +.
