You don't have to pull the cover.
Jack your front axle up leaving the right tire on the ground, mark the tire then turn the tire 2 revelations counting the drive shaft turns. If it turns just over 4 times it is a 4. 10, if it turns 3 and 3/4 it is a 3. 73.
On the rear if it is a posi jack up the hole axle if the tires turn in the same directions you would turn the tire only once, counting the shaft the same way.
It is usaly more accurate on the front being it is a open dif and no chance of the posi slipping a little.
