Dexron 6 is a bit different and fully syn. I thought about using it, but ultimately decided that old standby Deron 3 and reasonable change intervals would be best.

I used Valvoline full synthetic ATF +4 in the transfer case of my old 2015 Drw, and I had zero problems in 97,000 miles. Oh, by the way I had to use 4wd every day to get up to our cabin.

Where Am$oil stole the idea from :D:D

SuperTech ATF+4 from walmart last three changes. Still looks new when drained every 25K miles.

I've considered using ATF+4, mainly because I always have it on the shelf.
Dexron not so much.

Do you use 4wheel drive alot? Even the severe duty maintenance interval is 30k miles.

I have used atf4 since the first change at about 30k. Now at 156k. There have been multiple times when I have had it in 4x4 for 200-300 miles at a time crossing the state in less than ideal conditions. And many hundreds of miles for much shorter distances say15-50 miles at a time for same reason too much snow. It has also done the crawling around the mountains in 4 low but the truck is just too dang big for that. Got caught too many times having to back up too far on a shelf road or the like so don’t do that much anymore. The 01 quad cab while not great was much more nimble the extra wheelbase of what 10 inches sure makes a difference in tight areas

I use 4x4 6 times a year or so, all my maintenance is on a overkill schedule

As said above, I have used AMSOIL ATF for years and it is fully SYN with no problems and I just last week did my 99 with it after disassembly and re assemble and re install after the 5 gear repair on the NV4500. Like was said it is only gears and chain, nothing special. My 17- 2500 with 68RFE is next as it just turned 40K, I'll get that done before winter.

On your 68 you can do a complete fluid exchange if you want.
