I have a 96 ctd 5 speed # 6 fuel plate 4in exhaust piers hx35 turbo. Please explain what a boost elbow will do and a 3k gsk. I have an oportunity to get these change done. Dont know if I should mess with m y rig. What benifits or risk. Oo.

boost elbow will raise the boost... I'm surprised you've got a plate without some means of increasing boost

the 3k GSK is a great mod, but not sure how much you'll like your 6 plate after that... I've got a 4k GSK in my '97, and my 6 plate took way too long to get into full fuel. a 3k won't exaggerate the problem as bad. you might want to adjust the lever arm up a little bit to bring the fuel in sooner. I just ground my plate flat :p

Well, what brought all this out is that Iam getting alot of white smoke on start up. Takes 3 to 4 attempt to get it sarted and once it starts and cleans up it runs great. Iam working with a very good specialty shop called Dyno-Mite in Monroe WA. They believe that I have an air leak in the rubber fuels lines. Very common problem on this vintage. Need to have lift pump timed. He is estimating that Iam around 230 HP with current mods. Will adjust timing , fuel pump timing and valves. General tune up. Said could get it up to 300HP. I also have a Southbend Con and it will handle the additional power. I have owned this rig about 10 months and didnt install the #6 plate. It most likely has a boost elbow. Dont beleive it has the 3k GSK. I will ask my mechanic genius if this mod is a good thing or not. Iam still a bit ignorant on this new beast in my lfe. I learn a little each time I have to spend money. They drove my rig to test drive before repair and will dyno it before all adjustments for a baseline and give me the dyno after the work is done. This work has been long overdue. I hope I dont have a failed lift pump. I sense that this is not the problem nor a preheater. Will see

get those fuel lines fixed up, and you should be in business... you shouldn't have to mess w/ the lift pump IMHO.

the 3k GSK is a GREAT mod for these trucks, do it! :D

Well on the pre repair drive the mechanic picked up a fuel timing problem and not enough power on the lower rpm but at 2000 it picked up well on a good boost surge. PLease explain to me the function of the 3k GSK govenor. I dont get it. I will call the shop first thing AM monday to say yea or nay on this. This is a very fun truck to drive. Thank you for your replies most appreciated.

I have only 82,000 miles on this and it has been maitained very well. I had all the repiar and maitenance reciepts. Pires did all the

work.

In a nutshell the 3GSK kit allows the pump to supply full fuel to 3K+ rpm.

My '98 would fall on its face(de-fuel) around 2400 rpm stock. It would rev up to 27-2800 rpm but not under much of a load or make much power.

Now with my fuel plate and 3K GSK I have hit 3600 RPM recently on the dunes:eek: . Not intentionally, been trying to keep it below 3200, but it just keeps pulling so hard.

dwadley Dyno-Mite is a good shop. Evan Beck can get your truck dialed in.

Come and check out www.nwbombers.com sometime :)

I just got a 12-valve too and am having a lot of fun with it. I came across a set of 300hp marine injectors I'm going to give a try :D

Thanks for the clarity and understanding of this. Now how did this effect your overall MPG. I can get 23. 5 MPG without a load and trying to get good mpg. I also have a over and under gear vendor. I use this truck for my 9 1/2 truck camper and towing my 18 1/2 boat. The camper is around 4,000 wet and loaded and the boat is around 3,000. I want to have a good balance betwenn MPG and towing performance. Does the 3k GSK hit the MPG real hard to give better performance. I realizr there will be trade offs just want to know what the best options I should consider.

Evan is the man. I knew I was talking and working with a pro shop. I felt they were honest and very good people. I will have my rig out on late Monday, cant wait. I am aware of the NW Bombers and hope to get connected at a party to get gresed and dirty. OH well. I luuuuuuuuuuuuv this truck.

No idea on the fuel mileage affects with GSK. I did check a couple of tanks running around while hot rodding it, 16-17mpg.

About 600 miles after I got the truck it was totalled in a roll-over. I bought it back and sawed the roof off, installed a roll cage and use it as a toy/driver. Aerodynamics are shot and I have really heavy tuff country bumpers.

We used our '00 6. 5 Diesel to tow the Dodge to the sand dunes. Also had a 8. 5' camper in the truck.

If the truck has a hard time getting going until you get up in the rpm range, I would have them check the governor lever setting.

Low end response can be enhanced by adjusting the AFC star wheel but I found quicker and better response after adjusting the governor lever.

Go to www.piersdiesel.com and select "technical" to read his instructions on setting the governor lever.

He shows the #6 plate. I have the #5 which is similar in appearance.

He says to set the lever to contact the nose of the plate at the very tip. He also says that slightly below is OK.

Mine was hitting the nose very slightly below the tip and the response lagged a little on takeoff.

I moved the lever up until it touched the tip at the top of the radius and it improved low end response considerably.

You guys are grand comrades. This forum has been so helpful and educational. Thank you all for the help. I can call Evan my mechanic and dicuss my rig with some intelligent chatter.
