Ok I know this topic has been beat to death but I'm debating wether or not to straight pipe my truck or put the 4inch Jardine system on it. I was wondering if you could give me some insight into what these two setups would sound like and feel free to tell me any problems you've had with either. Thanks

What are you looking to gain? If you are stock the only thing you will gain is noise by going to a straight pipe. If you want a deeper sound the 4" is the way to go. Removing the muffler is cheap. 4" system is $400 to start and up from there. If you remove the muffler leave the resonator or it will drone on you, drone is an annoying resonance in the exhuast and it will make you crazy. Some of the 4" systems have also been reported to have drone. I would like to have a 4" system on mine but cool factor and deeper sound do not justify the money spent to me. I have removed my muffler and regret it. I have seen NO quantifyable benefit to removing it. Spoolup is not much if any better and EGT's were not a problem before so there is no benefit there either. The noise gets annoying on long drives. For me the answer is to leave it alone. Hope my perspective helps you make your choice.

LSmith is correct about the noise on a long drive. I really enjoy my straight pipe but long drives at highway speed can get old. I ran down to Alabama and back last weekend, 2,400 miles of drone. If I keep my rpm's below 2,000 it's ok, but that's only 70mph.

I don't know if the 24 valvers have the same tendencies at the same rpm. I'm going to insulate the back of the cab and put some clamps on the exhaust to see if I can cure things.

If you are bound and determined to do one or the other, try the straight pipe first, then if you don't like it go with the 4 inch.

drone

just turn up the radio 4 more notches, that should kill the drone.

to me, if you want --quite-- then maybe one should stay with a gaser. its a great sound of power to have that CTD under the hood. i enjoy my 4" and i don't think it is to loud. i've got one of jardines earlier mufflers which were 4"glass packs (2 welded together. and yes better milage better spool up and lower egts when towing, and also, with the BHAF. yes it is a decision, but only you can make it. i don't mean to step on toes and create enemies. just my pennys worth.

Go with the 4 inch turbo to tail system. You won't be dissatisfied at all. Sound quality is great without becoming overkill. Liveable for a cross country drive. In the cab with the windows up, you'll hardly notice a difference except for the heads that you'll turn and the astonished look that it's not an eighteen wheeler going through town.

I have the SP and have for 1 1/2 years and yes it does have a drone. After about a week I was ready to muffler it, but I didn't. The whole family loves the sound that it makes and now so do I even at the 2000 rpm range. Made a 4850 mile round trip to Arkansas from Ca. in the spring, and the truck spent a lot of miles at the 2000 rpm and the family was able to sleep, so it must not be that bad. You add the 2000 rpm drone with Scott's air induction and no silencer ring ... its pure music. .

Its cheap to SP first and then do the Jardine if you need to... .

Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of my straight pipe. But at 75 mph the drone makes it hard to carry on a conversation, turning up the radio makes it even harder:confused: .

I've only been married 13 years so the wife and I still talk:p

I don't plan on putting on a muffler, just doing something about the pipe resonating. :D

I myself have no muffler and silencer out its music to me i drop my kids off at school and boy i dont know who looks at the truck more the kids or parents.
