Competition H.P. verses Gearing?

The truck is not mine but a customers at my buddies shop. I go up and help sometimes. I cant say about the turbos i think he wants to keep that stuff quiet. They are both Holeset turbos. To be honest im not sure about what they are for sure Kurt has the I. D. Tags removed on one of them. But both are Holeset. Ill have to get some more pics of the other Twin setups they have done. Also the Twined electronic CAT with 2 bullydog kits. That truck will roll... ...

JR, thanks for the reply... . With all due respect if "they" don't want anybody to know what chargers are being used, the last thing they would do would be post pictures where 18,000 people have access to them. The knowledge of the members on here is astonishing, if you and I know what they are so do 100 other's... . people who want to keep secrets keep their hoods closed, and still get beat.

444 is an N14, correct?

Actually its in the NTC 855 family, the 365, 400 and 444 XT's were the STC (step timming control... 1988) engines, which were grey in color like the later N-14's. The older yellow Big Cam I, II, III, and BC IV engines had the MVT or mechanical valve timing system. The mechanical N-14 came in around 91, then the electronic N-14E or Celect and later the Celect Plus N-14 in the mid 90's.

The great 444 XT STC engines had the most stock hp untill the electronic N-14's came out in 91/92.

One really neat find would be an old 475 Cummins twin turbo NTC. Those are pretty rare. iIve only seen pictures of an old 359 Peterbilt 475 twin that was bone stock and restored. Guy wanted 48K for it.

I do understand what you are saying. But... .

Lets put it this way... ... .....

Would you show your competition your dyno sheet?? And give them specific details on your engine?? If you are on top??

Here is a picture of a mid-west puller vendor's motor on a sponsored truck. Do you know why the hood was open for all to see?? :D$$$$$$$$$$$:D

Some pullers even go to dyno events and see can top who. But, they tend to keep their hoods closed. Otherwise you can't hide that "Special K" motor. :D

Some pics of the Cat twin would be cool, never laid eyes on one. Must take a major computer mod and some huge injectors.

Vendor/sponsored truck....

That's Haisley's truck, no?

They answered EVERY question I had about their setup... . very much unlike a lot of other racers/pullers. To each his own...

MAN O MAN, a 444 Cummins. Haven't seen any of those in a few years. Those engines were like flipping a coin, 50/50 chance of it lasting. Guess since that one is still in tact then it is one of the last ones around. We have had a few come through our dealership, but heard those things are in the scrap yard now. No one knew how to set the valves on them. They would set them like the other Cummins engines and it would ruin the whole engine. We also couldn't get to many to buy them because of the Step Timing control. They never knew why they smoked so much for the first 10 minutes of startup, but that was perfectly normal. By the time the smoke cleared, they were gone. LOL. I was never afraid of them though. With the right knowledgable mechanic, they were a HOSS.

Sorry, I love to talk about big trucks.

The best engine I would have to have ever been behind though was the KTA600 Cummins. Dang thing barely fit under the hood of the W900 Kenworth we had. It was a glider kit and it actually came out of a cabover. It was a 450, but rebuilt to a 600. $20K+ overhauls put those engines out of the market though. That truck I sold to a local customer and it is still running around here. He loves it, except for the 3. 8mpg.

There was a NICE mid 70's W900 on eBay about an hour from my house a few weeks ago. Was advertised as being 1000+ hp Cummins KT powered, from the pics looked very clean etc. Nice truck!

Must have a set of twins on it. Wonder if it still on ebay?

K-series Cummins = *drool!*

I know of an old 'Pete sitting in a field with a KTA600... it even has an all-aluminum frame. Too bad the owner is crazy for thinking he's gonna get $18k for it... .
