2005 cold weather start vs 2nd gen

Fuel injector time ??? issues on My 2006 5.9 this time.

I'm to far south already.

Are Suncoast Diesel Transmissions any good? The have three installers here in the Atlanta area. And are reasonably priced.

Suncoast is as good as any of them for parts, the installers are usually the wild card.

So, buying a fully built transmission and have it shipped to an installer would be a smart move?

I'm still not at that point but doing my homework ahead of time.
End of week I'm at Genos and have finally a chance to open the transmission and check out the valve body.

If you want to buy a rebuilt then it should be fine. You would want an official installer to do it so warranty questions. Blacks Diesel is north of Atlanta if they are still around. There was another builder in Griffin GA that was local but that was before I left that area and not sure they are in business or a good choice. All of them had questionable posts about issues but one never knows if it is the builder or the individual.

I'll check them out for sure.
In a couple days I'll tear down that pan and dive into the internals...

Seriously... I hear so much bad about rebuilders that I consider doing it my self. I had this transmission and another 46RE apart down to the bare case years ago to do some seals and upgrade to them. What could go wrong, take the time, work according to the book, check twice, no short cuts. They aren't witch craft.

Warranties aren't my friend either as we are zig-zaging all over the continent.
It seems I'm always my owen warranty station and the one to blame at fault.

Have you looked in Randys Transmissions at all? At one point they had full rebuild kits available, always heard great things about their reputation.

Goerend always did have some darn good stuff and bet he still does, I got to see his place back in 07 :) I only lived 120 miles away at the time and now wish he has lot of stuff for the 68ref

Like said, hard to come by in a timely manner. And their kits are not complete.

I did, but right now to far away. I'll know more tomorrow evening after I had my VB in my hands.

When I was doing my parts collection for my 47RE, (that I never finished) either way, I used a couple places.

Goerend for the bulk of the stuff, VB, TC, some Shafts, and their rebuild kit, but I called them and we worked it out over the phone not the website. They ask about your use and the skill level. They really don't like selling to the general public, not that I consider you that by any means. But like in my case the VB and TC both had core charges, they only got my TC back because of how slow my rebuild went.

I messed up a seal and it was a hard to find part so I just got a TransGo kit, it was a little more $ but got a bunch of spare stuff.

Snap rings and the sort were RockAuto but were Mopar from what I recall. There was one that is recommended, maybe on the one OD drum, it should be replaced.

Hard parts like the one way sprag, sun gears, if the sprag race is loose in the case that's a show stopper and needs special work.

Even the pump, mine seemed fine well within the spec, but project creep sinks in and some folks say always replace the pump with an OEM unit, which I don't think I could find back then anyway so was not an option. I see a few years later now folks make the pump gears for Mega $$$, but it's probably not much when you know the time and effort to make that part is. And it's a very small market.

I still have the special made OD spring compressor, and the cut off output shaft, I got them from Cascade, they are probably out of business by now, some of that is needed but adds to the price, I could tool share that with you if the time comes and you pull the trigger.

It was nice having not to rig up a deal for the OD set up, the tool they made was nice to have.

Maybe hook up with Cerb at their shop and do a 48RE build for the ages and document for a refresh of the TDR stuff.

Good luck on you rig.

Im at the end here, had the VB out yesterday. Everything looks great*. Problem persist.

Monday we decide if it will be a Revmax or a Suncoast that goes in, the one that has a slot open for me and a transmission on the shelf gets the contract. I'm done and at 270k I think I'm running on borrowed time anyway.

Black's we called, nothing available in a timely manner.

*Interesting construction from BD by the way, the boost valve is restricted in its movement. Instead of a spring there is travel limiter installed.
Throttle valve is steel already, has some scratches around the perimeter from binding.
I'm not a happy customer at all with the VB failing on me after just a little but more then a year and 20k on it. Where did the quality products go?

The dices have fallen, a Suncoast stage 3 it will be, next Monday down in Florida at their headquarters.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, not an easy topic.

I know some shops will put you to the front of the line, if a little cash is thrown their way, off the books. Money Talks.

@Ozymandias, I hope that this will be the last time your more than pan deep in your trans! Glad you were able to find a place to get it addressed within a reasonable time! Many happy miles for you and your rig!

Thanks, yes that would be nice. I'm a little bit of a burnt Kid* if it comes to aftermarket products. I had some great results, but also often they were worse then factory in the long run. So I truly hope that this Trans works out - or my DW will kill me..
