Thanks, TDR Staff

Just installed a PacBrake kit on my '03 5.9L HO NV5600

Edge CTS3 Caution...

2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 Cummins. 48RE transmission.
2 problems
First one is when truck is warm and is turned off and started again that same day , sometimes 15 minutes or a couple hours. About 50% of the time it will not go into any gear without waiting a while or reviving it up to about 1500RPM, letting it drop Back down then going into gear. It will then run perfectly fine until it gets turned off again. Once it goes into gear the first time I can circulate between all gears without a problem. Transmission guy says it has a shift kit so it should circulate oil in all gears. He looked at the entire valve body and says it looks good. Not sure if it just wasn’t acting up because it only an intermittent problem.

Second problem is sometimes when the transmission is at temp and driven around for a little bit and I go
Into reverse it will be fine for about 4 seconds then bog down a little bit and hold tension, feeling like it wants to brakestand, when I shift it back into neutral it slams into it and gives it a spike to about 1200rpm then going back to normal. It feels like the torque converter is starting to lock up. This is only an issue in reverse. The torque converter has never had this feeling in any other gear but reverse, and runs really well when driving around town. This problem will also sometimes resolve itself after about 10 seconds of holding the tension and then be fine until I bring it back to neutral then reverse again.

I just think it’s weird that it only does it in reverse and it’s also very intermittent. I’m wondering if it could be a problem with the valve body that wasn’t acting up when it was looked at out of the truck. Also, The mechanics say that It looks like I have a lot of work done to my transmission from what they can feel and see from the inspection window and valve body including a possible triple disk torque converter and and billet parts
