Hello,

This is my first post here. I just got a 4BT that I plan to put in my M715. I've been following Lee Alessi's excellent work, and after talking to him, I sold my Olds 455 (but I'm keeping my 66 Toronado :D) and dragged a Frito Lay truck home.

Unfortunately, this truck had a TH400 and since I'll be going with a NV4500, I'll be needing a flywheel. 6BT flywheels seem to be reasonably plentiful, will they work in a 4BT?

Thanks,

Mikel

I believe that if you will find that the adapter ring for the bellhousing mount on you 4bt engine is removable. All you have to do is call Cummins and let them know what transmission you are going to install and they have an adapter already made up for the bell housing. The flywheel falls in the same category.

I looked into putting a 4bt into my 76 FJ-40 a couple of years ago and Cummins told asked me what transmission I was going to use. When I told them a NV 5600, they promptly replied that they could provide the bellhousing adapter and the flywheel.

I would give you local Cummins shop a call and ask them.

Good luck. :) Know anybody that wants to buy an 76 FJ-40 with 76,000 miles on it?? I need to sell mine to make room for other interest.

James is right. I remember reading in a Cummins B Series shop manual a while back that the 4 cylinder was a 6 cylinder with 2 cylinders chopped off. Same pistons, rods, injectors (in that they are interchangeable), valves, etc. I dont see why it wouldnt work. Good luck.
