Some of you here helped me last week to decide if I could drive without a headliner. Sunday I decided to go at it and install my can lights to my truck.
Harness- Custom made at home.
Lights- JDM smoked amber led
Here is a small right up of what I did with some pictures. Trying to generalize this as there are many posts.
Start with removing battery cables
Remove front a pillars (10mm) (2 each)
Remove seat belt pillars (10mm) (2 each)
Unclip and slide down, you'll be able to move liner around that without removing completely. Leaves enough room up front to wire and work around.
I used a stencil I bought off eBay to get an idea of where my lights will go and then moved to spots that looked good to me (ocd).
Next I used a small auto punch to mark my drill holes for the wires ( step bit to 3/8" and then used grommets) 1/4" bit for the light screws to hold in place.
Ran all my wiring and lights into the cab, using heat shrink butt connectors and wiring, built my own custom harness working from the passenger side to the driver side. Red positive, black/ white negative.
Connected my custom harness to batteries and tested all lights and strobe functions to make sure they were all working. Harness runs off 7.5amp fuses which is more than enough to power really and lights with strobe. Ran all wiring into a pillar and into under dash and out into engine bay to harness.
Once everything was wired and reconnected I then used industrial clear silicone that is weather proof in 30 minutes and cures in 7 days. Used 1 tube and chaulk gun for all 5 lights just to make sure of no leaks Tighten lights down until silicone starts oozing out and back off 1/8" turn as to not be so tight.
Verify silicone made it into can so you know your sealed. Reassemble truck and enjoy. Pictures to follow.
