I go with kenny61 on this one. Check vacuum lines at switch on top of transfer case and also at front axle at CAD. Since trans was replaced, even the lines could be put on the switch incorrectly.

Check to see if the rubber block on top of the transfer case is installed correctly. It has one corner that is different to install it correctly, but it can be forced on wrong.

after looking at transfer case,i dont see anything on top of transfer case that looks like a switch, but on the left side, about 1/2 way down is this the vaccum swith? thanks bill

The rubber block is where the vacuum hoses connect to the transfer case. If it's on wrong then the vacuum switch can't put the front axle in gear.

... and if the shift fork(move) dosen't connect the front axle the 4x4 light won't light up(the 4x4 switch is in the CAD).

IIRC the vacuum connetor (rubber block) is on top toward the front of case should have vacuum lines comming out of the top of it.

Drivers side top of the transfer case, just above where the shift linkage goes in. I have mine out and on the floor, and it's easy to see. There are 4 tubes coming out, and 2 tabs in between for line up. On the gas truck I had, I broke one of the tubes, the main vacuum, and 4wd went in real slow because of the leak. IIRC, the switch was only $20 or $30 at the auto parts.

What I would do is pull both lines where they transition to the steel tube at the front edge of the cross member, and check for vacuum. There should always be vacuum on 1 line or the other. If there is none, then move to the switch on the T-case.

4x4 working again, vacumn lines were disconnected on front axle, thanks for everyones comments and suggestions. thanks, bill
