How do I install a probe for a transmission gauge in my getrag 5 speed? Don't ask me why I want to, I already have the autometer gauge, and I like gauges ;) , just don't know how to run it...

I don't think it's worth the work. There have been guys here who have put them on, and never saw the thing get hot.

Just make sure you overfill it!

But, if you insist on it... what type of probe is it? The easiest place I can think of is the drain plug, or the PTO cover.

Autometer z-series 2640 I think it is. Haven't really checked it. I thought I was getting a oil temp gauge according to the website pic, but the gauge says trans temp, I was just gonna remove the 1/8" plug on top of the filter housing and put the sensor there.

Weld a bung huh? Guess I'll have to have the bro-in law do that, I have no idea what the means, he's the welder.

The quickest way is to install it with adapters in the drain plug. You can also drill a hole in the PTO cover and weld, braze or JB Weld an adapter in place.

Drain plug hole, that sounds easy. I looked in the gauge box and it has two adaptors and the sensor. Now without removing the drain plug, whats the thread size for it?

Am I on the ignore list today? :D
