HEHEHE!

Last I talked to Amsoil, they do not have a lube they recommend for Chrylser power steering.

GO MATT!:D

My first two ( as in 1+1=2 ) transmissions failed after 20k miles each due to multiple gear grinds. The THIRD one is shifting PERFECTLY on Royal Purple Synchromax. Look in my photo album for a picture of the OEM lube (jellied) in the last transmission.

The reps at New Venture CAN NOT suggest anything except the "official" lube. Gears are gears, there is nothing magical inside the 5600, Red Line, Royal Purple Synchromax or any other synthetic will do just fine in the 5600 as long as it is GL-4 and light weight oil. This is my OPINION and my OPINION only, your warranty will be in jepoardy if you go non OEM but I was tired of the things failing. Besides, I was told that DC has changed the spec'd oil now and it is not MTX.

This is just my opinion, we can all still be friends if you dont see it my way. :)

These wars go on and on:

For the Record:

http://www.amsoil.com/products/atf.html

"Amsoil Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

Recommended for applications requiring the following specifications:

GM Dexron II, Dexron III

Ford Mercon, Mercon V

Chrysler ATF+, ATF+2, ATF+3, ATF+4

Like I said before though, we all have our personnal

favorites. I am not forcing my opinions on my fellow TDR

members... I am my own warranty station and honestly

do not really care what dodge says but when New Venture

says use the OEM specs I believe it requires a second thought

before switching to another product... personnally I would rather

run full-synthetics thoughout the drivetrain... I can really notice a

difference on cold mornings... my 5600 shifting is on the stiff side until it warms up where as my Ford (synthetic in transmission) shifts smooth as a babies' bottom hot or cold

The parts guy ( a GOOD one) said he heard in a meeting that DC considered Homers Duck Butter but decided on a "one size fits all" type of lube, the one part # replaces two or three other oils and included the part number for the 5600.

Glad I'm your friend and not someone you dislike

;)

Matt, too bad I didnt know you liked MTX, I just sold a 5 gallon pail for $60. Time will tell for me, if my current 5600 makes it past 20k miles then... ... .....

Homer also sells oil Duck Dye for the "one size fits all" lube.

It's availible in five colors so you can tell by the color of the puddle on the floor where the leak is coming from.

Just when I was getting excited about ANOTHER wonderful use for Cornhusker's Lotion!!

I use MTL from Redline. I will be honest and admit that I base this almost entirely on my faith in Redline products. i have had excellent results with all their other stuff, and when/if they let me down, I will start to look elsewhere.

It shifted better from the instant i changed it over. It actually shifts BETTER cold than it does hot!

Anyway, i switch the transmission fluid over at about 8K miles.

i am now full synthesized at only 10K miles:

Engine: Redline 15W-40

Trans: Redline MTL

T-case: Redline D4 ATF

Diffs: Mobil 1 75W-90

The truck runs VERY well, and is a true joy to drive- no aggravations. All complaints thus far have been "operator error".

Your dd2 hypocrite

" Making synthetic oil is like baking a cake: you only put in the things you want. Making dino oil is like filtering, boiling and treating raw sewage until you come up with a cake. Which do YOU prefer?"

Hohn, thats a good one :)

I'm using the redline products as well. MTL in the 5600, high temp ATF in the X-case and 75W-90 in the diffs. I had Royal Purple in the last 6 speed truck i had and it worked well too.

Today I just put on my fast coolers and re-filled the trans with Redline MTL. I noticed a smoother shift in the driveway as I ran through all the gears a few times prior to my test drive.

I also noticed the 5-3 shift is much easier as is putting it into reverse.

Duck butter is unusual farm product

What do you get when you combine just the right measure of mustard, sugar, vinegar and beer?

Dr. J. T. Slim's DUCK BUTTER.

The story goes... "more than 200 years ago, J. T. Slim, a doctor, saddled his pet duck, Pedro, and set out with 200 pounds of mustard seed on a mission of spreading good taste for the refined palate. " I'm not sure how believable the story is, but the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in Salem, Indiana.

Dr. Jack Hedrick and George Bowers, of Salem, have developed an original product. Dr. J. T. Slim's Duck Butter is a refined blend of mustard, sugar, vinegar and beer initially concocted by Hedrick's father back in the 1940s. Dr. Hedrick first tasted the sauce half a century ago and shared the secret at a restaurant Bowers formerly owned. The pair experimented with maybe 10 different kinds of mustard flour and patrons at the restaurant offered criticism to help perfect the blend. Duck Butter has been hailed as a stand-out on breaded fish and oversized tenderloin sandwiches.

After Bowers sold the restaurant, local demand persisted, so the pair continued making the concoction at Hedrick's house, bottling it for sale locally and by special order. "Some like it as a sandwich spread, others cook with it, or put it in potato salad, deviled eggs or baked beans," according to Bowers, "I like to dip pretzels in it. " The local McKim's IGA grocery store , and other small businesses - like the restaurant Bowers used to own - Jack's Backroads Restaurant, carry the gourmet spread. Duck Butter is also a staple condiment at the Salem Speedway (celebrating 50 years of high-banks racing in Salem during 1997).

"It's been an adventure," according to Bowers, the Duck Butter entrepreneurs have had to learn about quality control, labeling, packaging, pasteurization, and other woes of food manufacturers and processors. Duck Butter is now manufactured in Louisville and distributed from Hedrick's eye care practice in Salem. Dr. Hedrick's home serves as warehouse for the product.

The Indiana Farm Bureau recently highlighted Duck Butter in a special news story. The duo has also been able to participate in a local food show at Frozen Food Service in Salem that brought visitors from hundreds of miles. With the assistance of the Indiana Farm Bureau, Duck Butter was featured at IFB's booth at the Food Marketing Institute international trade show in Chicago. Buyers, distributors and brokers sampled the hot mustard, along with the more recent "Duck Dip" honey mustard and "Tail Feather" barbecue sauce creations.

Many people I've talked to say the Duck Butter will "set your eyebrows on fire. " Personally, I prefer the "Duck Dip" honey mustard. It's sweet but hot. I like their barbecue sauce so well, I buy it in the half- gallon size (hey I have six kids and when they're all here, it takes a lot of food to feed them all). To further promote the fledgling operation, Dr. J. T. Slim's Duck Butter even has a home page on the World Wide Web. You can find them at: http://www.jtslims.com. They have a toll-free number for orders too. Their toll-free number is 1-888-JT-SLIMS.

Bet you see lower operating temps too with the synthetic fluid, I already had Fastcooler before the switch to synthetic. Immediately I noticed 10-15*F drop :)
