In my request for info on the best extended warranty for our 2004 All American Sport 5er toyhauler, I forgot to mention it was for the camper, not the pickup. Looking forward to your comments. Thank you.

In the new RV's I have purchased, no dealer has ever offered an extended warranty. If one could get extended warranty for a used RV, how would they know what condition it was in when you purchased it. If you do get extended warranty, read the find print very carefully or get an attorney to scrutinize it for you. Many folks have been burnt on aftermarket extended warranties.

Look into Good Sam's Continued Service Plan ( CSP ) I think thats what it's called. It covers everything and some things you have to add on and you can pick the deductible you want. My 5er everything is covered, had to add a few dollars for the slides which cost me $79 quarterly for everything to be covered. I think the slides added $10 to the plan, been so long since I set it up can't be sure. I chose the $100 deductible, if for example the fridge goes out and needs to be replaced I only pay $100. The same deductible applies for any repair needed. Have not had to use it yet and I hope it works like it should, Good Sam has always been good to rv'ers so it should be there if I need it.

The Good Sam Continued Service Plan, CSP, is a full-service mechanical breakdown insurance policy, backed by an "A" rated insurer. CSP covers parts and labor to repair RV systems, appliances, and accessories. In the event of a breakdown, CSP also includes travel benefits such as meals, lodging and a rental car

Ford (yes Ford) has a plan that I have heard very good things about. I have the Good Sam CSP, and am not real pleased with it. I had a couple small cracks in the fiberglass near the slide - not covered. A major part in my fridge went out last year, and they would only pay for a remanufactured replacement part, and would not pay for the shipping. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I still paid around $500 (I also have a $100 deductible).

We bought one when we bought our Arctic Fox - we've tried to use it twice and the problem was either excluded or it was more hassle than it's worth. We still have about 2. 5 years left on it and I just canceled it last week. Let's see how long it takes them send the refund. Would I do it again? Highly unlikely.

I bought one with our new 5er mostly because the salesman convinced the wife it was needed. Problem I see with them is even when the part is warranteed if the "proper" procedure is'nt followed and "authorization" recieved prior to work beginning you not covered. I think your better off putting the money you'd pay for the warrantee in a separate savings account and use it if you need it!

If you are at all handy with tools and projects, there are few things that can go wrong with a 5th wheel that you can't fix yourself.

When I purchase my 5er new I bought DFS Advantage Platinum Travel Trailer Plus. Normally I don't buy these things as they are a waste of time and money. This time I did and it paid for itself which surprised me to no end!!!! If you deal with someone familiar with how these things work. They deal with them when making repairs and getting parts and it is no problem to you. For instance on my Dometic I had the cooling unit leak 3 times and it was covered. The cooling unit by Dometic and labor by DFS. On the 3rd time Dometic would not cover the cooling unit(older than 1 year) and DFS was reluctant to pay for the thing. My RV repair and parts place worked with them and they agree to kick in what it would cost for a new cooling unit and standard labor toward a new Norcold and I made up the difference. I am happy with the deal and Norcold refrigerator. This was all done by my RV repair and parts place. His comment at the time was that is his job to represent me to DFS and he did. I am probably lucky to have a good place like this to help and it is to bad all are not like this.
