Hitch/Stab/Ball ratings?

anyone with experience with a duramax diesel

That's a good looking 5er. I see it's got 3 axle's. What's the make and length of your 5er. Your mpg sounds low, but considering your total weight, it's realistic.

Weight concerns

Weighed the truck ('08 3500 DRW, QC) w/o 5er:

steer axle=4780#

drive axle=3660#

Gross weight=8440#

Then hooked up the trailer and reweighed:

steer axle=4800#

drive axle=8160#

trailer axle=7220#

Gross weight, combined=20180#

Doing the math the trailer sounds right at 11,720# sufficiently loaded for 1 week (GVWR for trailer is 14k)

I am concerned with the 4500# pin weight. Assuming the CAT scale operator knew what she was doing 4500# pin weight sounds real high for a '08 Cameo 32SB2.

Maybe this is why we had a miserable ride northbound on I95 in SC.

Comments?

33 ft toyhauler, one Harley, 110 gals of water, generator in truck bed, a week and a half worth of groceries, clothes and misc. stuff, my wife and myself=21,300 lbs. I don't usually travel with water, but that was the heaviest I've been. Without the water it comes to around 20,400. I weighed it almost empty once. No bike or belongings. Just a few gallons of water in the tanks and some misc. stuff in the trailer and it came to 18,400. The bike weighs about 800 lbs, so the other 1200 lbs difference is our "stuff". Clothes, food, stc.

I weigh in at 24,200 lbs. with approx. 25 gals of water, 80 gals of fuel, 2 sets of tire chains, shovel, etc. Truck alone is 9800 lbs.

10. 5 to 11. 5 mpg towing.

My DW and I just got back from a trip to the Black Hills in SD. I had the truck scaled at a Loves in Newton IA, weight slip put the steer axle at 4740, drive axle at 8520 and the trailer weight at 3640 for a total of 16,900 LBS. I had just fueled and was fully loaded except water ( I do not carry any until we camp). My fuel milage ranged from 10. 5 to 9. 7 depending if we were going up hill, round trip was 2397 miles this included sight seeing in the Black Hills with out the 5er. I am pulling a 2006 F27RKS Amer Camp gross trailer weight is 11,700 fully loaded. I am glad to see that even the older trucks have similar fuel milage. My 08 is that bad after all.

Full-timers here. 38' triple axle, triple slide Travel Supreme Express. Been too scared to weigh lately. About a year ago though, our combined weight was 25,500.

Trip to CA a couple of summers ago, 22,100 combined, 10. 98 mpg averaged over the whole trip.

Kept the speeds mostly between 60-65.

Full timer here also. 38' Mountain Aire. On 2 dually axels running 8 tires total. Full fuel load of 60 gal. Cat scales East of Reno said total was 28,000. W/O driver. Excellent milage going down hills. Not so good going up.

I am at 24,400 lbs. with 80 gals of fuel, approx. 20 gals water, empty tanks, 2 sets of tire chains etc. ; 3000 watt Yamaha gen. and me and wife.

Getting 10. 5 -12 mpg. depending on speed/hills.

Hovering in the 18-21K combo weight for boat/truck/trailer depending on bring alongs and boat fuel load (200 gal tank). Best mpg towing with the 04. 5 is 8mpg --- northeast hills kill the mpg's. Just addded cool hose, airbox mod and smarty jr so the Aug trip will be a test of any mpg improvement.

I weighed when leaving Billings this last June and was guessing 27,000(and was hoping I was on the high side guessing this). My actual weight was 29,420 gross. WOW My best mpg was 9. 7 in the flat lands of Mo. and Il. My worst was 6. 3 in some Ok. hills pushing a 60+ mph head wind. My average in the west with mountains driving has been 8. 3 mpg. My 3. 73 285/75/17 combination isn't exactly mpg friendly though. In about two weeks I should have my US Gear underdrive unit installed and I am hoping for a little more fuel efficient gearing for the mountains (4. 66 in underdrive).

I second that, I am pulling a 37 foot Cameo Carriage 15,000 lbs, 3,000lbs of pin weight.

Truck fifth wheel and gear 23,000 lbs. I'm getting between 12 and 13 mpg. I make sure not to let the rpm's go over 2000, about 65 mph. Any thing over 2000 rpm's and the mpg go down fast. I've made many 1000 mile plus trips with the set-up and it has remained the same.

Stress releiver

I love reading treads like this; knowing you are pulling this much weight and the fact that your truck can handle it, give me reason not to worry about pulling the baby load of 23K. I’m a worry wart when it comes to weight, I need to relax and enjoy the pull.

I have a 25' Gatormade trailer that I haul 17 800lb round bales plus the trailer weight of 6500lbs. Total hual is 20k lbs plus the truck. Only 10mph. No problems pulling it but I sure wish I had an exhaust brake!!!!!
