2nd Generation and Air Bags

bucking - axle wrap

Howdy to all.

I got a jazz 2980bh and am wondering what options I have to try and get it in the air an addtional 1-2 inches. It sits about level now (maybe 2" higher in front) with my truck on the stock 265's. I' m about due for tires and would like to go to a 295 or somewhere around that, anyway to the point has anyone tried to install blocks between the axle and the springs to raise 5ver or is that a no no?

Thanks for any advice!!

Blocks have been done. There is a guy over on rv.net with about a 30' 5er with 2" blocks. I can't remember his name right now but he had a bunch of neat upgrades posted. Solid steel is the best material, drill to bolt solidly on the spring. Aftermarket aluminum blocks could collapse with the twisting from tire scrub in tight turns.

Then, of course, longer u-bolts. You don't say if the axles have been moved below the springs (flipped). If not, that will get you about 5 or 6 inches higher depending on the axle dia and spring pack thickness.

My bad , should have noted that the trailer came from factory with the axles already mounted below the leafs. I think I will look into re springing it maybe that's the safer way to go, I would love to do some kind of air bag setup but I don't know about the stability of a setup like that.

If you have Dexter axles (most trailers do) they sell a kit to put the springs on top of the axles. If you have it done at a trailer place it will usually run $500-$800. Check the Dexter website.

From the Dexter web site:

MISCELLANEOUS - How can I change the height of my trailer?

Dexter offers an over/under conversion kit for leaf spring axles. The two different kits available are K71-384-00 for axles with 2-3/8" diameter tube and K71-385-00 for axles with 3" diameter tube. Please note that these conversion kits CANNOT be used with reinforced spring seats. Additionally, changing the spring mounting from underslung to overslung (or vice versa) will change the trailer frame height and change the center of gravity of the trailer. This may affect the towing characteristics of the trailer.
