If youreally want to answer the oil change question get a analisys at 6months and that will tell you your oil condition. If you have any engine warrenty issues that analisys is your backup.

6 month oil change

Well, got my free 6 month oil change at the dealer that was covered by new truck warranty on Monday. This morning after driving 92 miles since oil change, I reset my oil change indicator on the EVIC. And I noticed the dealership accidentally reset the fuel filter life indicator instead of the oil change indicator. That's one reason I do my own work on my truck and my wife's car. Another reason is I like to chose my oil. Anyone ever mixed 60 W 60 in small amounts with 10 40 to combat fuel dilution?

Per my kids, I'm 2 days younger than dirt, BUT with all the vehicles I've owned throughout my life, I have yet to let the dealer touch my vehicles for things like oil changes and such. Had a 1992 Toyota for a to/from work vehicle and only I did the wrenching. Got 400k on it before I gave it to the neighbor kid. Never took it in except for one head gasket recall. I told them not to touch anything except what they had to for warrantee.

All the reading on this thread was worthless in my opinion. 1) Ram says change or lose warranty 2) Moisture will destroy oil.

So if my truck has a manufacture date of 2-1-14 and I buy my new truck on 12-10-14 and the dealer did not change the oil at six months while sitting on the lot will I not have a warranty?? Just think of all the moisture that destroyed my oil and the dealer left it in there when the sold it to me!! Should I go to the dealer and demand a free oil change with only 600 miles on the truck?

You're not responsible for anything that did or didn't happen to the truck before you bought it. Now that you own it, it's your responsibility to follow Chrysler's maintenance schedule.

Happy New Year,

John L.

Anyone wonder where all this water and acid is coming from??? SO if I change oil drive 100 miles, I now have all this bad stuff in my truck. SO if I drive 100 or 1,000 a month what is the difference? If I change in 6 months or 1 year I can't buy there is much difference.

They are in such a hurry that they don't even set the correct reminder, and (unintentionally) setup you/your truck for failure by resetting the fuel filter reminder instead of the oil, but not changing the fuel filter...

I don't think anyone can/will care for a vehicle as well, lovingly as the owner. Telling a dealer to do only the warranty work is a good call.

Chrysler's documents/info are not perfect. One publication that came with my 2014 says 1-year or xxxx miles/EVIC, another has the 6 month requirement. Pretty sure I could show the 1-year document and be 'right' enough.

I'm not so concerned about the warranty that I will change the oil every six months, when it will typically have much less than 10,000 miles logged, and I live in a dry air climate. Approx once a year is enough, and I'll be doing oil analysis for my own knowledge, which could be backup regarding oil condition. The likelihood of an engine oiling failure is slim, and even IF that were to happen, very unlikely that Chrysler would not repair the truck with all my documentation and records on a stock truck.

I've modified my vehicles so much in the past that warranty was likely not an option anyway. I'm accustomed to being my own warranty station, and doing my own service better than anyone I could pay.

I would think that any moisture/condensation and acid that degrade the oil comes from the combustion process, the truck being driven, engine getting to operating temps and cool down........If it just sits on the lot/in transit/storage and isn't driven, none of the above happens and the oil would be fine, for an extended period of time.

Sam

Nope, oil will absorb moisture, even if you put a can of salt open on top the engine. The humidity is in the same air the salt sees, although the salt will absorb at a faster rate.

Given it's a slow day and I'm bored.......let's beat this horse a little more......these new engines are so sealed up crankcase wise, no road draft tubes, everything is recirculated, EGR systems, nothing is vented to the atmosphere.......If the truck sits for an extended period of time, just how does the motor get a fresh gulp of air that is full of moisture, for the oil to absorb??:confused:

Sam

It doesn't matter what we think or how little, or none at all moisture the engine is susceptible to. It matters what Dodge says and what the warranty requires, and they require min of 6mo. intervals, regardless of milage driven. We can beat a dead horse all day, but the warranty is the warranty.

I have no problem with the 6 month oil change.......I have/plan to follow it .......:) just wondering out loud about the science of it all. I bought my truck off the lot in April 2014 and it was built in August of 2013. For that reason I did the first oil change at 2500 miles. I would bet the 6 month/15,000 mile warranty requirement starts from date of delivery.....

Sam

Ya, my 2014 is a left over, and will change the oil at 1500 miles out of habit. We bought a 2014 RAV4 and it came with free service at 10 mile oil change intervals, so I pay for the 5,15,25,35 thousand mile changes. I believe the EPA has gotten to the manufactures to extend the oil change intervals, but I got that from the Black helicopters flying over my house. :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

Do you think if a new truck sits on the dealers longer than six months they send it to service to get the oil changed??

No, but also think bout the amount of time in transit and sitting at depots getting inspected before it even gets to the dealer.

Do it every 6 months as they say or any damage will be on you. Here is an example how TIGHT they are.

I have a 07 Jeep Liberty.
I put an OE hitch when I bought it in 2007.
2013 the wife got rear ended and the hitch was bent at about a 30 degree down angle.
2014 Jeep has a recall, they need to install a hitch so give support so a fire, explosion does not happen when hit in the rear.
I send paper work in and they say I can follow up in 4 months.
5 months latter, they say they never got sufficient paper work.
So I send them a copy of the body shop bill showing that it was just replaced with there new OE hitch.
They said that they would pay the other guys insurance company because they paid for it. (it keeps getting better)
Then they wanted to see the original receipt (the one that is coming up on 8 years old). Luckily I have it.
So I fax that to them.
Then they ask for proof of payment, credit card receipt or copy of a check.
It was paid in cash and states that on the dealers invoice.
Now they said they are going to call the dealer to confirm that an 8 year old parts invoice was paid cash.
Still waiting

My conclusions:
1. Thanks god I installed the hitch as my wife could be DEAD from the tank EXPLODING!! Why they came out with the recall.
2. And this is only a $230 part plus labor. Can you imagine the extent they will go through for a 10k engine plus all that labor?
3. At this point is about the principle of it.
4. I will bet that they try to pay me for the hitch that was put on back in 2007 (which was cheaper) vs the hitch that was just placed on my truck. And the amount of time they are spending on there end. I mean now I know why our trucks cost so much. The cost did not go up because our trucks are made in Mexico. I think they went up because of all the BS corp crap that they make us go through.

Sorry for the rant on my first post.
