'05's when?

I swung by my local infamous Dodge 5 Star dealer today just to check on a few things from other threads to see how much I would be spending on aftermarket parts.

Talk about a hard sell! They wanted me to buy an automatic (maybe because that was ALL they had in stock) but I was insistent on a 6 speed.

Then they tell me the 6 speed isn't holding up to the "600" well and they are "fixing it" to handle the extra torque. So that extra 45ft lbs of torque between the 555 and 600 is killing the NV5600?

I almost laughed in their face but I kept my cool as I really wanted to see how desperate they were to sell me one of their trucks. I also neglected to tell them I had an '05 on order for about $12K less than they would want for the same truck.

But being me, I figured there might be a little bit of truth to what they were saying. So, does anyone know if they are beefing up the NV5600 for the '05 models? What would they be doing to it? I know there are many members putting much more than 600 torque through these without any problems.

Thanks.

If they were failing, you'd hear it here 1st. I suspect the clutch is much weaker than the NV5600. Also, plenty of bombed trucks with 5600's with more than 600 ft-lbs.

And on the remote chance there is any fact to it, you will get the beefier unit since your are getting an 05.

No transmission problems with the 6-speed in my '02 at 311 HP and 725 Tq - 27,000 miles, mostly towing an RV...

Now, the CLUTCH, *that's* a different story! ;) :D

Leave it to a salesman to bad mouth anything to make a sale--EVEN THEIR OWN PRODUCT

If all they had were 6 speeds then the autos would be failing...

I would stay clear of Reno Dodge

No trouble with mine at 370hp 1020trq. I know people alot higher torque than me. No trouble with theirs either. Next time wear hip boots when you go there and wait for them to ask you why.

They kept saying the auto had a higher tow rating. Only because its lighter than the 6!

Anything to make a sale!

Scum sucking salesman!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't bought a new car since 87. Tried to get myself into jerk mode in prep for new car for wife. Went to toyota in marysville. Whole place was really nice. Did a little haggle between Honda and Toyota. 3 days later wife has a new Avalon. I am still in shock from how easy it was. Neither dealer badmouthed the other. And the best part was I didn't have to become my evil twin to get a good deal. Maybe in another 17 years I'll take a trip to Reno with my chest waders.

Heck, my little stock 5-speed is holding 800 ft. lbs. for the time being. I like the hip boot idea though. :)

Thanks Mad Bomber.

RonA,

Leave the waders at home unless you just want to practice fending off high pressure salespeople and even higher costs. Got a pacemaker? you'll need it for the sticker shock.

is the 05 6 speed a NV5600

Has anyone actually seen the make of the 6 speed transmission in the 05's?? NVG in muncie announced a layoff of about half the work force, and it was because of a lost contract with DC. I heard the are using a japanese 6 speed in the 05's

AHHH SOOooo - just as I suspected as soon as ownership of NVG changes hands, heads roll and doors close as manufacturing transfers offshore and across borders - score yet another one for NAFTA and GATT...

Boy I hope that's a false rumor :(

My 6-speed has been flawless since Day 1, 32,000 miles so far. I love it.
