Ever been to the bay area?? They will try everything they can to sell you a truck at 5k over sticker!!!! Flippin crooks if you ask me. Thats why I bought mine in OR. Oh, and my truck seems to be holding up just fine with the 100 hp ramifier and intake and exhaust and flatbed with tool boxes and 13k# fithwheel and I am at 40K+ right now. Do need to change the oil in the transmission though. I'm rough on the thing. Haven't maganged to urt it yet. If you really are curious try posting this in the towing forum. Lot of guys towin rv's for a livin that lurk around in there. I can't think of anyone who would be harder on a truck for long periods of time then those of us with big power and bigger trailers. Just a thought . . . . .

Not all salespeople are evil. There are idiot salespeople, just like their are idiot customers.

I've only been selling for a year, and let me tell you, I've dealt with some real tools in my time, but you never hear about the bad customers, only the bad salespeople. I take pride in being honest with my customers, and giving good customer service long after the sale.

Maybe instead of going in with a chip on your shoulder, try going in with an open mind. If the salesperson acts like an idiot, walk and go to another dealer. You might just be suprised.

I wonder if you told them you really like one on their lot, but wanted a different color if they would tell you that the reason they don't have any in 'your' color is that the paint of that color has had a real problem in just flaking off, and they only order ones with the 'good' paint. I think their argument is likely adjusted to feature whatever they have in stock...

Walk in with waders... I like that !!

Posts on this and other forums, as well as independent articles I have read seem to indicate that the NV5600 is practically bullet proof. Also, I have not seen anything that suggests any change for 2005.

skargo.

Your right about the sales people. I got all set for a nasty time when I went to the dealer. Darn guys were really nice. Screwed up my whole day. I'd been saving up bad attitude ever since my last unpleasant dealer experience. I even wore my burlap briefs. A pleasant and knowledgeable salesman who doesn't b. s. and cut down the competition makes the whole experience much more bearable.

repeat after me: "The NV-5600 is the strongest transmission available in a light truck. " ;)

Some salesman really tic me off!! I used to just ignore them, but I'm getting old and irritable these days, I guess! Now I don't let them off the hook. Once they realize they've lost the sale, they generally mumble and walk away. I got my first "Ford owns Cummins, you know" just the other day, and I'm pretty sure he wishes he never opened his mouth.

Life's too short to deal with stupid people.

Dave, it must be a generation thing - I seem to have the same problem myself as I get older - and get criticised for it on occasion, but allowing obvious error and misinformation to pass unchallenged isn't my style - nor is it fair to the less-knowledgeable to not at least try to set the record straight...

Sounds like you two suffer from crotchittyitis. Symptoms include watching CNN, arguing politics and falling asleep in chairs.

Gary, I just re-read the entire tp filter thread. I sure hope I have room when I'm done(for a filter).

Bullet proof? They are not, mine is scattered all over a shop bench at this monent. I found the right bullet or the wrong trans, not sure which.

HMMMMmmm - an '03?

SHOULD be covered by warranty - why are you doing it yourself? Must be more to this story than meets the eye?

:--) :D LMAO@ burlap shorts.

Hey, I resemble those remarks ;)!

dgieson, ANYTHING can be broken and anything mechanical can and will fail eventually, however, the NV-5600 is the strongest transmission available in a light truck. period.

Dave

Gary it is covered under warranty and it is not my shop bench.

It is however the only manual trans that I have ever had a problem with, 25k on it.

It may be the best trans in a light truck, I pull the same loads with it that I pulled with all of my trucks and this is the only one that failed. To me it is not the best.

Have a friend that has an 03 6sd with a little over 200,000mi and 6th gear gone.

Nobody said they wouldn't or couldn't break, just that they break less often than their competitors trannies.

Sorry for your bad luck.

Dave

I'm thinking 200,00K is a pretty darn good life span of a trans????? Could be wrong, but if I lost 6th gear at 200,000 I wouldn't be wondering why is broke so soon. . LOLOL But I pull trailers etc. .

These let's face it, sales people are in it for themselves period so why have any mercy on a gofer. Why play the game of who's the dumb and dumber? They make their commission based totally on our lack of knowledge. Just go in and ask to speak directly with the sales manager after doing your home work on the internet. Pre-check out what where and when there is special inventory reduction program for discounts. It is well worth the wait. It usally starts around Sep. ish. Spec out a truck and use the phone for new vehicle purchases talking only to the sales managers with my offer price take it or leave it. The last time that I bought a car through a sales person they were discharged for being out manuvered. Never trade in a vehicle, use it up for at least 5 years and get your money's worth out of it then sell it. Thats why you get the one you really want and not just settle for what they want to sell. I hate driving my six speed instead of an auto but Dodge does not make a decent auto for what I buy a truck for. If you want a real heavy duty hauler, the NV5600 is the way to go with a good clutch but get ready to row some gears. Paid $26k loaded with every option (Weisner Dodge Tomball Tex),with cloth and thats what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay.

03 HO, 6 spd, 2WD LS, 373 gear, HD Tow PKG. LWB, Quad 2500, silver, SLT, air suspension, Banks every thing, gauges, fuel system upgrades with 100 gal on board, SBC, 350hp/850 tq. pulling 12k 5er, no problems great truck, 14k miles. Ain't going to give this one up for a long time.
