has anyone done or thought about this swap before? I know alot of work and parts to swap over or make I am fine with that I got a whole machine shop to work with. but a buddy and I was talking today about this he says the new 68REs are junk and even a tq and valve body job cant help them. I understand an 48RE would be a little eaiser but i enjoy having 6 gears. any input would be great thanks
 
No controller to enable the swap yet. The 68RFE is full electronic control and needs a controller to function. Call Suncoast and see wher ethey ar ein the process.



The stock 68RFE is the same as the Tq Shift and the Ally, under clutched and over managed. Don't even think you will drop them behind an unmanaged engine and get away with it. NONE of them will live long wihtout major mods.



Its the way of world now, everything is managed for the biggets return at the cheapest cost.
 
ok i didnt think of the dang computer i love the 5. 9 only drove 2 6. 7 i liked the shift points in them but i will give suncoast a call monday out of town this weekend. i had an 04. 5 with the auto i liked it but within 30k miles and 2 stealership rebuilds then last one done by me all good after that i had seen one for sale for 800 on ebay so might look at that too thanks for your info

arrgghhh... . just when I had forgot about this... its brought up again. . !!. hahaa. .

About 2 years ago, I posed this same question, except I wanted to install the Aisin 6 sp. out of the C&C trucks... I feel like its a much better trans. than the 68...

But there again, no controller. .

I wish one of the little Cat 6 speeds was small enough to bolt up to the 5. 9l... I know how to control it.
 
The only real choice is an Ally with a stand alone controller. Again, don't think your going to drop a stock one in there and have it live forever. They will need massaging to handle the TQ as they are rated not much more than the 48RE for input TQ.
 
haha sorry to bring it up wingate! I guess i could wait for a wrecked one to come into the salvage yard around here but then i would be tempted to do the whole motor/transmission swap i guess that would be eaiser to get around the smog thing sence 03 had no emissions. or i guess i could just rebuild my nv5600 anyone know of some good kits off the top of there heads i know syncros are worn in mine.



my old 04. 5 only had a triple dog on it so i know the 48REs cant take too much. I do haul alot 35' goose and farm eqmt i have crossed the scales right at 48k pounds so may just stick with old reliable thanks guys for smacking sence into me i need it every now and then :)
