Oil Change Surprize

I live on a mountain. Ok, it's a Alabama mountain so it's just a big hill to some of you. My issue is after turning off the highway while towing my 35' travel trailer my transmission temp is in the 170-180 range. After reaching the top of the mountain it around 200-210. I keep it in second all the way up. All of this seams perfectly normal but I only have about a mile after that before I reach the house so it's still quite warm. Does the transmission oil circulate if I leave it idle in park to let it cool down a little, or should it be in neutral?

Why do you keep the transmission in second gear when towing up your hill/mountain? You do have the 68RFE auto correct, since you posted this in the 6.7L threads?
I have towed my 5er out west up and over the continental divide, I70 Eisenhower Tunnel and up Black Mountain in NC in 5th gear with no issue at all. The transmission temps stay in the 180F range, the Boost pressure is under 30 psi and the EGT's are around 900F and the engine RPMS' are under 2,000. My 5er is a 34RL, Cedar Creek which is 13'.6" tall.

So, if you are worry about your truck and or have a speed restriction on the road, I would tow your trailer in 4th gear.

It's a small, two lane, country road. The speed limit is 35. Three of the corners cannot be taken that fast. When running normal highway speeds it's not a problem.

Can't you run the transmission in fourth gear? What this does if I remember correctly. Is the transmission will shift to what ever gear is required for the speed/engine RPM, load and climb as required. When I am in town and pulling my 5er the truck will shift automatically from 1, 2, 3 and 4th gears as required when I lock out 5th and 6th overdrives on the transmission. The transmission will up shift and down shift as needed keeping the trans in the optima torque range at the speed I am at!

I could, but on this hill going up the mountain it just does a lot of hunting from one gear to the other. It's really just this one last hill before I get home that is the issue. Most of the time it just stays in drive, tow haul on, exhaust break on. But this last hill is steep, very curvy, and it's a short distance to the house after reaching the top which does not give much of a chance for the transmission - and other things like the turbo for that matter - to cool down before I just shut it off.
