Mopar 3.5L ????'s

Thanksgiving joke

Ok, i know one of you bombaholics has at least see how this was done. I have a buddy here at college that was to put a blower on his pickup. it's a 96 model 1 ton w/stock vortec 350. He wants to redo the injection system, and add a blower from a detroit diesel. Has anyone had experience in this? He found a 6v71 blower, and it looks like it should work, but we're not sure.

He knows it's going to be a huge task, but he's about as hard headed as I am. Any suggestions?

Big bottles of aspirin! Try to find someone with a Whipple supercharger and take alot of pics. I think the Whipple mounts the throttle body on the back of the housing to prevent interference with the hood. How is he going to calibrate the injection map? There is a web site that has throttle body stuff, cannot remember the name though. Maybe TPI Specialties or something like that.

A guy that used to live down the street from me tried this (actually a full sized B&M) on an older 350. Life was measured in 100's of miles at best. He used all of the fancy steel cranks, good rods, forged pistons, 100LL and it still did not live long.

As far as hanging the blower. That is pretty straight forward. The are many companies that can set you up with the needed parts to work. The big one will be the injecion unit.

The whipple is the better choice as mentioned earlyer. It is made for this setup and uses the stock throttle body setup. Very little items to change. It is a good over all package. It will take a better part of a day to install with no mods to the hood line.

The GMC (Garage Man's Companion) blower will require hood mods to clear. Massive amounts of money to do the injection setup.

This site is a good one for him to get sticker shock on. But they have a wide range of go fast goodies and services. :D

The 4-53 blower is a good choice for a stock small block. But the hood clearence problem still jumps up. The whipple mounts the throttle body on the back end of the blower. With anything GMC based its time for hood cutting and mail box mounted on it.

Myself for what he is thinking. I would tell him to get a 502 create motor and have the link I posted earlyer setup a port fuel injection for it. More power and cubic inches that will stay together for a long time. The only problem would be getting a chassis to hook up all the power.

Thanks for the replies! He's going to look into the whipple blower, but he's still stuck on the detroit blower (he's won't listen). He mentioned something about taking the hood completely off (in true ricer style, eh :-laf ).

Again, thanks for all your help!

I think he would be better off with a paxton suppercharger, look at summit racing or jegs they may be able to set you up.
