I want it!!

Driving, not dreaming! My new CTD RAM

A while back an ambitious gent was putting a 8. 3 litre Cummins into a Ford , Does anyone know what happened to this project   My brother inlaw ( heavyduty mechanic ) says it cant be done, I DISAGREE  I'd like to shove this in his face..... If I could locate it. One more question ,does anyone have info on the 8. 3L Cummins in relation to the 5. 9L... length, width, depth, weight, etc anything would be a great help..... Thank you all

Back on the TST Mailing List when it was worth a darn, there was a guy on it who had an 8. 3L Cummins in his old Suburban. It was a marine version. I remember he was posting about how his injection pump died somewhere in California and it took forever to finally get the thing fixed.

No hints to give. Nuthing can be done about it. Photopoint just recently made their service a pay service. Used to be free, now you can't link or anything unless you pay for your account with them. We are just kinda out of luck on it at the moment. Hopefully he will chime in here and I can ge tthe pictures from him and put them up on the web.

Sorry :(

PZicha ,

katDiesel's link 8. 3 Ford I was able to see photos. I don't have account.

One it is an older ford pickup, first hint 429 engine. He also had to cut a large hole in the firewall to do it.

If they tried to put one in a new ford you have the back of the engine next to you

The models before the new one mite have enough space.

I knew a guy bought old ford pickup with Detroit Diesel in it.

Did it have a 6V71 detroit ?, If it did I seen it in a magazine. They claimed 140 mph top end and hill passing ability towing a 5th wheel and boat . To bad GM didn't take lessons on engine building from their own division. The old Detroits where impresive power plants , I've been beside a few 6. 5 turbo's struggling pulling a fifth wheel up a grade while i'm pulling mine... . I just end up shaking my in disgust as I pass them :D :D :D :D

My friends dad had an early '70s Ford 2wd utility body that he installed a CAT V8 in - because someone said he couldn't do it. He was a firefighter at LAX so he had the time & resources to do these kind of things. I think the engine was the predecessor to the 3216? It was a NA engine - would start in 5th gear w/o any problems and get 12mpg no matter what you did with it.

I have an 8. 3 in my FL60 and I believe it would it under the hood of a Ram. It would be tight but not anymore than what a PS is in a Ford.
