'95 12V engine in '98 24V Auto truck issues...

Want to dump V10 in 2000 Ford Excursion

Starting to be out of ideas what to try next. Output speed sensor didn't help either, still stays on first gear. I tried another PCM but no change what so ever, although both of my PCM's are used and I don't know why they have been removed. Earlier tried with another valve body, no change. The trans. has been opened and clutch/servos tested with pneumatic air, they are working like they should be. I have on shelf a brand new solenoid pack, the one which controls od and tc but already tried with another valve body, so I don't believe they will do any good. Measured all the wires from the trans. to the PCM, all ok. I also measured all the solenoid coils from PCM connectors, they are around 33 ohms each and they can be activated by feeding 12 volts from trans. relay and grounding corresponding wire from the PCM connector, they draw about 0. 34 Amps each. Maybe I just gotto keep checking all the wires and grounds related to trans. control. The wires for the transmission are the only ones without any mods. I just plug it on like it was and now the damn thing is the only one which is giving troubles.

That's possible but governor solenoid and sensor were changed with the valve body what I tried on earlier. Although checking the pressures is going to be next step to narrow the problem a bit. Surfed around and found couple of cases with similar symptoms, first and reverse only and they both cured with the new output speed sensor, but not mine...

I was just brushing my teeth and thinking the same thing, line pressure.

Without me looking back in the basillion pages of this thread, whats the background on the transmission? Was it something that you had been using before the project?

Must be something simple, although I'm not a transmission expert.

Hope its not something like there was junk in the transmission cooler or lines...

Don't know the history of the transmission. We checked the cooler lines too, put in N, start it up and let the oil from return line flow in a container.

The PCM's both came from -96 2wd with auto transmission, could call a friend and ask him show over with his -96 Dodge to test my PCM's in his truck to make sure they are fine. Gotto go, Later

Good news! took off the trans. relay to get it in limp mode, it starts on third when in D, I could get it down to second from shifter but not on the first gear. Gotto drop the pan ones more and replace the press. solenoid and sender, it just gotto be that.

Timo

Not so good news. Took off a governor solenoid and pressure sender from my buddy's old trans. he's having now a DTT trans. (lucky ******* ;) )

and bolt them in to mine. Also put in a new set of od and tc solenoids for just in case, but no change for the situation. With the trans relay on, there's only first and reverse, with the relay off, there's second, third and reverse. I'm starting to doubt my PCM's, can't tell for sure are they from auto or manual truck. I got them off ebay for -96 Dodge with auto trans. Attached a pics of both pcm's, if someone happen to have access for the part numbers. Just wonder, if they are for manual, can they be reprogrammed for auto trans. ?

90 burb getting the cummins

Sorry its a late question , but do you have to drop the cover to prime the oil pump ? , can it be done from the out side of the engine ???

mine is a gen 1 engine thanks

You can do it from outside too, connect a pump to the port on the main oil rifle just below the injection pump, the one which feeds the inject. and vacuum pump

Timo, thanks i gotpressure , i still might have to do it that way , i pulled the cover off but is the pump suppose to have a littel drag in one spot of

the pump ??? also heres my other problem 5 of the injectorline spurt fuel the the last one fuel just runs out any ideas , bad pump injectors , lift pump ??????? thanks again

If there's just one drag spot during one revolution of the pump, it's most likely dirt between the pump gears. If the drag points are "pulsating" one after another then you are just feeling gears pumping the oil. Usually there's just constant drag, so, if you doubt any dirt in there, took it off for cleaning. The pump thing, it maybe just air in the system. I recall my old GM 6. 2 with a rotary pump, after rebuild it was shaking some time before all the air was out of the system.

its just in one spot so it must be some crap or some thing in it

so hopefully it will work its self out , its definately not pulsayeing just in the one spot

thanks again , any idea on my pump issue ????????

I would loose up the line from the injection pump end, to see if it spurts from there. Other things to check are lift pump and return line, don't what kind of regulator rotary pump uses, but it's worth to check out too, it may do weird things if not working properly

Like someone said earlier, Sweet Baby Jesus!! It's working, transmission shifts and I just love pushing the go pedal, sweet spot starts right after 10psi. The reason was a faulty PCM. Too bad it was raining while test driving, so I could not go crazy with the soot pedal. Gotto say, this burban kicks!

Timo :D :D :D

Thanks guys, more good news follows.

Suburban has been approved to road use this morning, what's left to do, is wire the cruise control and overdrive switch. Also new washer fluid container and expansion tank needs to be done, but only after my garage has been cleaned out of four years project junk.

Ones in the MOT we weight the burban too, looks like moving the batteries off front made a big difference to the weight distribution. The tank wasn't even half full and spare tire was out too, with full tank and spare tire it's even more close to 50/50

Weights are.

Front right 780kg 1719lbs

Front left 695kg 1532lbs

Rear right 660kg 1455lbs

Rear left 670kg 1477

Total 2810kg 6194lbs

That gives weight distribution 52. 6% front and 47. 4% rear.

Total weight with 454 gas engine and old trans. was 2610kg 5754lbs so, Cummins/47RE and dual batteries etc.

adds only 200kg 440. 9lbs to the total weight.

Its those missing lug nuts! They are very heavy you know. :D Glad to hear that you figured it out as quickly (for us) as you did. Some smoke show videos would be very nice when you've got it dialed/broken in.
