I am coming up to a 90,000 mile service and I am seriously considering Royal Purple in the drivetrain and Rotella

T6 in the engine. I've learned that NAPA Gold filters are (WIX filters) and plan on using them. I've also learned that

NAPA has a platinum series filter. Are the platinum filters also made by wix?

If anyone has any recommendations, pro's or con's on these products I would appreciate your opinions. I'm most concerned in longivity of my 5. 9 and drivetrain.

Walkin, in issue 71 of TDR, John Martin finishes his tests of 15 filters and says his favorites are the synthetics -- Fleetguard LF16035 and Wix 557620XE. He concludes the article by saying he only wishes he could purchase this quality of oil filter for his passenger cars. Mark

You can have great oil filters for truck & car, often at less than the box stores typical highly marketed brands.

I'm using Donaldson #ELF7349 @ $12. 90 ea. Terrific specs, as this is a manuf. for fleet equip. Their synthetic media does not adsorb water & their construction is top notch. Contact Dave @ -- email address removed --, and read TDR Issue 71, and read the excellent data summary from TDR forum member AH641D.

Hope this helps you as it did me.

Just an update, I had my truck serviced with royal purple ATF & gear lube 70w90, they adjusted the bands and after a 200 mile trip,I found 2 mpg better milage @ 65mph and 10 degree's less transmission temp. It seems to shift smoother, maybe due to the bands adjustment. I also changed the oil to Rotella Synthetic. I did this in hopes of dependable longivity for my 5. 9.
