I'm a previous owner of a 99 24V 4x4 5sp with 4:10's. VA box + 4" exhaust. I was running 37inch tires with levelling kit. I never got under 17 mpg. My "new" truck is 95 12V 4x4 with auto trans and 4:10's also with a 4" exhaust I'm running
34-1/2 inch tires. I can't get over 10 mpg.

To me this sux.

The previous owner said he changed (or maybe ground his own) the fueling plate and cranked up the screw. Not sure exactly what that is as I'm a n00b with 12 valves...
The truck seems to run very well (although no ballz compared to my 99, no blow by, does not burn oil. Compared to my 24 V with Van Akken box + 275 injectors, this ones a dog...

I'd be perfectly happy with 300 HP and 600 FT LBS Torque and if I could at least get my 17-18 mpg back I'd be satisfied.

So I watched this vid....

Any opinions on these mods? Do the forum members think I should do these mods or buy a hot rodded p pump? It almost seems like this guy's package is a "work around" for having a low HP early P Pump.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree but I'd really like to get 600 FT lbs of torque down low in the RPM's without spinning the motor to 3000 rpm's.......AND better mileage.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Sean

The 95 with auto trans had 160 bp/ 400 tq pump. The plate in the top of pump/governer is what regulates the hp/ tq.
The screw is in there also as I recall. Sorry forgot what actually controls . It mite be the amount of fuel the p 7100 is getting all the time. Where the plate determines how much fuel controls the amount fuel the p 7100 gets according to the rpm is. The plate has steps on it ( under neath) an arm travels along the steps. As I recall the closer the step is to the plate the more fuel the barrels get. Which increases hp/tq.
If he ground it him self he mite of made a zero plate.
I would suggest if it a zero or other hp/tq plate to look at Bank's plates.
They are carb certified and more power for your money. As I read Gale Bank's does not believe blowing a lot i smoke out the tail pipe. He wants the truck going down the road ( fast) if your pulling trailers he has plates for that too.

You touch on engine changes but what kind of improvements does the transmission have? The 160/400 number is measured at the flexplate. 600 tq to the wheels is almost double what the transmission was designed for. What kind of transmission temps are you seeing now? The little engine hp enhances may have smoked the transmission already.

You have a 47rh ( hydraulic mostly but has some electronic sensors going to pcm which regulates the converter to lock or unlock.? It mite regulate when trans shifts into 4rth but I think it does that also by hydraulics. I know thier were quite a few after market businesses for the 47re so there mite be after market parts for beefing up the 47rh.
Dtt ( diesel transmission technology) do not know if they around still. Goerend trans, Sun Coast ? Do not know if they s are still around. You can try googling dtt and sun.

"I'm a previous owner of a 99 24V 4x4 5sp with 4:10's."

Instead of spending the funds for building an automatic that will take the HP and torque you want. It might be good to consider converting the truck to a manual transmission. 300hp and 600 torque with a G56 6-speed, or other transmission of your choice would be awesome in your '95. Just a thought.....

I'm seriously thinking about the 5 SP. I had good luck with the nv4500 in the 99. I'm still trying to figure out if the kit sold by PDD is a work around for the early P pump... or would it be just worth it to get a hotrodded P pump instead of that kit.

A good injection shop can build a very clean running 300 hp pump, you will want a stout trans built to hold the torque. That being said I would fix what is wrong first

The injection pump is probably way off from the guy's mods. Mine smokes and fuels heavy till the turbo spins up, but I get 17 mpg even while towing a travel trailer. The stock trans won't hold 300 HP. Shoot for 230 hp with a stock auto, I ran mine with just a #6 plate for a coulple years, It ran okay and pulled the 34' TT I had at the time much better than stock. My 3K GOV spring kit made a huge difference.

PDD also posted an FAQ vid about the AFC live...I just installed this unit with the associated 'max travel kit' on my 160hp 47RH 2nd gen..don't think of it as a 'work around' for the lower hp p-pumps..it replaces the fuel plate referenced operation with a boost pressure referenced operation, 'on the fly' from the cab. The max travel kit allows more rack travel..hence more fuel. Yes the 160hp p-pump is restricted in upper end fueling even after delivery valve change...they have a sale going on during March on fuel products...I got the AFC live, timing kit, 5x12 inj and 055 del valves at great prices..but I am only looking for 300hp max..so happy now
