Currently have a 98. 5 24 valve cummins with the VP44, leaning towards the P Pump swap, after the second VP is showing signs of going out after only four months out of the one year warranty. What are your thoughts on this, any input?

I agree it is a expensive swap but I do not want to be replacing VPs every year or two, I just wonder is this swap a full proof thing as far as the computer crap goes on the 24 valve.

VP44s have the potential to live hundreds of thousands of miles, given good fuel filters, steady fuel pressure, and starting off with a quality pump in the first place. There are less than ideal replacement VP44s out there, definitely worth buying from a reputable vendor if you don't want to risk having to replace it again in just a few thousand miles.
