So a friend of mine has a 98. 5 auto, butt stock... Wont start with key, windows dont work and a/c heater motor dont work? But it will start if you jumper the starter. Does this sound like a bad ign switch?
Could be a bad ignition switch. Could also range to issues with a failing ECM. Does it do anything when the key is turned in the ignition? Could also be frayed wires inside the steering column.
Does the tilt function get used often on the wheel? If so, it is likely that wires have chaffed through from the ignition.
Look ath the connector into the ignition switch. There is a large red wire that many times comes apart from the connector pin or does not mate properly. I have seeen this on many 98 through 2002 models. seems the wires in the harness are just a touch too short and pull on the connectors. You will need a security torx bit to take the cover over the steering wheel off. security torx has a hole in the center of the bit
