My buddy has a 99 4x4 extra cab and this trans case keeps cracking just above the driveline. This is the 3rd time in about 8 months:{Has anyone have a idea why this is happening? The motor mounts have been looked at to see if their is a strange angle with drive shaft found nothing. On the 3rd fix he dad a new drive shaft put in with the case. In to it for 1,500 so far. ANY HELP would be great.

Check the output shaft of the transmission

It could be wagging the transfere case eventually breaking in. The differential could have moved forward causing the slip yoke to hammer the output shaft of the transfere case. You should have a couple inches of slip in the yoke, after you bolt up the differential ujoint.

If it is cracking the housing at the top above the roller chain I would suspect that the chain is worn out and wraping up or jumping a tooth causing the problem. bg
