2006 mega cab air conditioner is not working. Seems to have a full charge and works OK if I hotwire the compressor. The clutch seems to be dragging some and when you first start the truck it will engage about 4 or 5 times momemtarily over a period of less than 10 seconds and then will not work again until the key is cycled again. It seems like maybe it is setting an overcurrent condition and shutting off the compressor. It won't stay running long enough to pull the low side down past 50 psi. Has anyone else had a similiar problem or know what the resistance should be on the clutch coil? From the looks of the clutch it seems like a logical explanation.

Sounds like it is low on freon. When it engages, low pressure switch shows no or low freon, shuts off compressor, pressure rises, compressor comes on and repeats. The computer sense all this, and after several tries, it shuts the whole thing down.

Have you checked to see if there are any codes set in the computer? Also the compressor clutch relay might be the culprit. Don't know what the resistance might be on the clutch coil. I do have a 99 FSM and the amp draw of the coil for that year model is 4 amps or less. bg

The 06 clutch/compressor is notorious for failing. It is powered up by the tipm. If you scan the tipm there will probably be a code stored

New A/C compressor from Carquest took care of it. They require you to replace the orifice tube and of course the accumulator to qualify for warranty. Sold as a kit. The pulley bearing had a rough feel to it and there were some metal shavings on the front of it. Anyways it is up and running. Thanks for the help.
